Hospital at Home offers a different kind of nursing experience. So what drew registered nurse Marcia Scofield to the Hospital at Home program? And what keeps her there today? If you're interested in a new nursing experience, learn more from Marcia below or click here: nursing.urmc.edu. What drew you to work in Hospital at Home (HaH)? "I remember being floored by what an exciting project it was. It felt so forward-thinking — to use emerging technologies to care for people who are just the right amount of sick in an environment where they are better able to rest and where they can minimize exposure to other illnesses." What do you enjoy most about caring for patients in their homes? "It's the ability to focus on one patient at a time. I've worked in many different settings across the healthcare continuum, and one thing they all have in common is that staff are pulled in many directions at once. The ability to concentrate on each patient individually allows me to be the kind of nurse I want to be." What would you say to a nurse who is curious about HaH? "Come ride along with us! Come ask questions and talk to us about your reservations. You don't need to make a commitment just to check us out (you don't even need to tell anyone!)" What are the major differences between caring for patients in the hospital setting vs. HaH? "In the bricks-and-mortar, you can stick your head out the door and ask someone to grab you something you forgot to bring into the room with you. I've really learned to be a bit more organized and pack a certain number of just-in-case supplies."
