Unboxed is excited to announce that we’ve kicked off an Alpha with London Borough of Lambeth and partners to explore how digital tools can strengthen local authority Building Control services. Over the past few weeks, the team has been immersing themselves in discovery to try to understand what it really takes to deliver a 365-days-a-year service that keeps residents safe, while also competing with private providers. What’s emerging is a clear opportunity: ➡️ Modernising systems to improve efficiency ➡️ Opening up data to enable better decisions ➡️ Creating the conditions for residents to benefit from faster, higher-quality services. It’s early days, but this work is already revealing how connected, human centred digital systems can support the future of safer, more sustainable buildings. Ever notice how some enterprise software seems to outlast everyone who procured it? Contracts get renewed automatically, and no one questions whether the system still meets current needs. That’s how organisations end up with legacy tech eating half of their IT budgets and new projects starved of funds. A periodic review, trialling modern, modular alternatives, could free up resources and encourage innovation. 👉 If your company hasn't done this, then it's time to start asking 'why'....

Digital transformation succeeds when clinicians are part of the design team…not just the end users. When we worked with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust to reimagine community based cardiology screening, co-designing with clinicians cut delivery time from months to weeks and scoped a pathway that improved early diagnosis. In every project, we champion the user, whether that is a clinician or a patient, within the complex ecosystem of clinical governance, risk and safety measures and regulatory challenge. Innovation in healthcare isn’t just about better tech. It’s about better care through collaboration. Most digital projects in the built environment fail before a single line of code is written... Not because of the technology. Because nobody validated the idea first. We see it across architecture practices, construction firms, and urban development organisations: ambitious digital programmes that stall, get de-scoped, or quietly abandoned because the right questions weren't asked early enough. At Unboxed, we built a structured way to fix that. The Digital Accelerator is a focused, time-boxed phase of: → User research with the people who'll actually use it → Rapid prototyping and testing before anything is committed → Stakeholder alignment so your team is pointing in the same direction → A clear, evidence-based recommendation on what to build next The output isn't just a prototype. It's confidence. Whether you're designing a new client platform, digitising a planning or compliance workflow, or building tools to support a major regeneration project, the Digital Accelerator gives you the evidence to invest wisely. We've done it for the NHS, for energy companies, for housing and planning organisations. Now we're focused on doing it for the built environment. Looking to scope something right now and want to reduce the risk of getting it wrong?
