This afternoon, the President of the United States held a roundtable on cybercrime and the transnational criminal organizations behind the scams and sextortion that steal the life savings of Americans and citizens across the globe. This is challenge of a lifetime, but, in that room today, it was clear, that we, as a community, are dedicated to fighting and winning. TRM Labs was honored to be in the room as a key partner to the White House, law enforcement, and national security agencies fighting this global scourge. The FBI Director, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary fof War, the White House National Security Advisor and other leaders described the threat and how the public and private sectors are working together to combat it. At TRM, we use technology, partnerships, and a global community to identify, alert, and interdict the illicit proceeds of scams. For Esteban Castaño, myself, and the entire TRM team, supporting the law enforcement and national security agencies with the resolve to fight and win is the honor of a lifetime. Now let’s go.

This week, TRM Labs announced Ardence, our AI investigations platform. One question keeps coming up. Why the name Ardence? Vicki Payne even took the time to research the name on her own, which I appreciated. The name Ardence draws on the word ardent, which means passionate, fervent, and devoted without reservation. That describes our partners in law enforcement, national security, and compliance. They work cases late into the night. They follow the money across borders and chains. They pursue the people who exploit the most vulnerable with an intensity that comes from deep commitment to the mission. Ardence is built for the people who bring that dedication to work every day. Ardence brings together on-chain and off-chain data into a holistic picture of risk. It then goes one step further, helping investigators build out entire scam networks. It also thwarts cyber attacks before they reach their victims. While researching the name, I also came across the Battle of the Ardennes. On December 16, 1944, German forces massed quietly in the dense, fog-covered forests of Belgium. They launched a surprise offensive meant to split the Allied lines, then retake the port of Antwerp. It became the bloodiest battle of the war for US troops in Europe. Soldiers at places like Bastogne and Elsenborn Ridge held their ground through a brutal winter. They pushed the offensive back, and that resilience in the face of overwhelming odds stayed with me. So, why Ardence? It stands for the ardent focus, dedication, and resilience of the investigators and analysts who defend us against modern crime. We will win and we will win together. When I joined TRM Labs six years ago, the decision to join an 8-person startup was, in large part, because of Esteban Castaño. We met on a park bench in Lafayette Park outside Treasury and talked about the future. Esteban had a vision for the good that TRM could do for the world through technology.
