The disputes landscape is evolving rapidly. Legislative reform, technological disruption, economic volatility and geopolitical complexity are reshaping how disputes arise, how they are resolved, and where parties choose to resolve them. The sixth edition of the Travers Smith Dispute Resolution Yearbook explores what this means in practice, and how we are helping clients to navigate modern disputes with clarity, creativity, and confidence. If any of the themes explored resonate with you or your business, please do get in touch, we would be glad to continue the conversation.

Britain's £500m Sovereign AI Fund: It's Sovereign AI Bet What makes it stand out: • Strong leadership from the off – James Wise from Balderton is leading the charge. • It's more than a cheque – backed companies get fast-tracked visas for R&D talent, access to the UK's largest supercomputers, government procurement support and legal fees covered for overseas startups looking to "flip" to a UK company. • Deliberately focused – ticket sizes of £1m-£10m into early-stage UK AI companies, investing directly alongside co-investors on commercial terms. The UK taxpayer is intended to share in some of the upside. • AI security and governance are a focus – reflecting the UK government's statements around responsible AI. • Incentives over mandates – companies are not required to stay in the UK, which is probably the right call, but it means the fund's success depends on whether those incentives are genuinely compelling to founders to keep them on British soil. Will it be enough?: • £500m is modest vs. the capital being deployed by other countries and large tech companies in AI globally – e.g. the EU's Scaleup Europe Fund is €5bn and, just announced this week, will be managed by EQT Group • The UK's historic weakness is growth-stage capital, and this fund doesn't obviously fix that. • Can a government-backed vehicle truly move at the pace early-stage investing demands? The UK's problem has not been a shortage of ideas or early-stage talent – it's been keeping them here. This fund and its ambition is a positive step. Whether it's a big enough step is the question founders, investors and policymakers should be asking.
