𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗢𝗧 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿. Why? Because people on the shop floor focus on one major thing: to keep things running. If they are not involved, sooner or later they start to work around cybersecurity measures. Why? Again: to keep things running. Down there on the shop floor it's the only thing that matters. Judging what a given cybersecurity requirement will do to the line and production - can be done only on site and in collaboration with the shop floor. Three perspectives are needed: the requirements, their delivery inside the control systems, and knowledge of the process itself. Incident reporting shows it best, because the directive gives you 24 hours from the moment you become aware, and the average time an attacker stays undetected in an OT environment is 42 days. I have written up what this means for manufacturers in a new article published on the TT PSC blog - including where the deadlines stand country by country: https://lnkd.in/dj9trY5x
