On Saturday my 14 year old son tried to bench press 100 lbs x 1. He failed, quit, and walked away. After 30 minutes and 3 attempts, I was able to coax him back into the basement. We talked about Larry Gelwix, the most winning rugby coach of all time. He taught his players that “Attitude and effort are everything.” I told my son this wasn’t about how much he could bench. It was about his attitude and effort around failure. I helped him with his form. 5 minutes later, he got 90 lbs. He rested a few minutes, then got 95 lbs. He rested again, and got 100 lbs. A new PR. How does this relate to you? As a busy executive father, are you focusing on what the scale says… Or are you focusing on your attitude and effort with daily health habits? If you’ll do the latter, your health and weight will take care of themselves over time. You’ll get off the “weight loss rollercoaster” forever. P.S. I spent most of middle/high school working out… with little to show for my efforts. My 14 yr old son recently did a chest workout. Proud of him. We discussed pre and post-workout nutrition as being just as important as the workout. A banana and protein shake then followed 😊. I’m determined to help him see a better “return on effort” than I did. What health principles are you modeling & teaching for your kids/grandkids? They’re watching. 💪

Having 6-pack abs at 42 years old is fun… Especially while enjoying ice cream and fries (or the like) weekly… in moderation. As my wife can attest, I’ve been doing this for the last 20 years. No, the answer isn’t Ozempic, Keto, Nutrisystem, fat loss pills, TRT, etc. 4 key areas busy exec dads are missing: 1 - Insulin sensitivity 2 - Leptin hunger hormones 3 - The thermic effect of food 4 - Brief, efficient exercise Plus, when structured correctly, did you know ice cream/fries can actually accelerate fat loss and muscle growth? This goes back to principles #1 and #2. Who says our health journey can’t be a sustainable, enjoyable lifestyle? “By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.” High-performing leader? No offense to Keto, Paleo, 75 Hard, or the like… But I prefer a long-term sustainable lifestyle. For the past 20 years I’ve been blessed to maintain a 20% to 10% body fat transformation… As a high-performing leader. One of my secret weapons has been still enjoying burgers, French fries, and ice cream in moderation throughout that journey. Nothing wrong with restricted discipline. But far too many are stuck losing the same 20-40 lbs over and over throughout their lives… Because they’re focusing on intensity… When consistency should be the focus. Consistency trumps intensity every time. Get this RIGHT and the clothes fit right, the energy, confidence, and mental clarity comes, and you show up as the healthy father example for your kids. Get this WRONG and you feel embarrassed taking your shirt off at the beach, get winded on bike rides with the kids/grandkids, and constantly worry about your bloodwork status at the next doctor’s visit. Long-term health and weight loss success isn’t typically through fads & extremes… It’s through moderation & consistency. Here’s to your success! Ozempic… not a fan. Neither are my 250+ clients. (It’s a popular medical appetite suppressant for weight loss in case you didn’t know.) Here’s why we’re not a fan: - One client said it this way: “I know Ozempic is an option but I would view it as a crutch and not focus as much on nutrition self-mastery and who I’m actually becoming in the process.” - Another M.D. client said he regularly sees patients come in to the ER with many side effects from Ozempic. - Studies show that type 2 diabetes (and many health problems) are 95% preventable with sound nutrition & exercise. - It’s very expensive In short, the answer typically isn’t the next fad, pill, injection. The answer is consistently doing a few small and simple things well. It’s time to confront that truth. That being said, I realize Ozempic has a legitimate place in the medical community. Same with gastric bypass surgery, etc. Some patients may benefit that simply can’t get in control of their eating, are struggling with diabetes, etc. P.S. James Clear says to “make good habits easy.” We recently made a massive vat of healthy chicken pasta and I feasted off that for days. Cook in bulk. It’s a game changer. I don’t want to be the chunky guy at the pool. That’s what a 47 yr old executive told us prior to joining our health coaching program. He’s determined to lose 25 lbs of fat and keep it off. What’s exciting is all the other “snowball”benefits this will provide him: - Longevity - Better sleep - More energy - More confidence - Better bloodwork - Better relationships - Better quality of life - Less joint & back pain - Better example to kids/ grandkids Speaking of “pools”, 17 years ago I was holding this cute little "chunky" guy at the pool. In September he’s heading out to Brazil on a 2 yr church mission. Time passes so quickly. The clock is ticking. Don’t wait another minute to improve your health. You’re meant to live your best life now. P.S.
