The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies has a 200-year history of veterinary teaching. Today the School is an international centre of excellence in clinical services, teaching and research. Internationally recognised experts deliver online clinical postgraduate qualifications which are specifically designed for veterinary professionals seeking advanced training. Veterinary medicine is a rapidly evolving discipline, comprising a wide range of specialist areas. Veterinary practitioners are under pressure to maintain high standards of practice while also keeping abreast of the latest research. The Advanced Clinical Practice programme was designed in response to the increasing requirement for support in developing advanced veterinary clinical skills. Advanced Clinical Practice offers online study options from short courses to recognised postgraduate qualifications. The School's clinical and referral services across companion, equine and production animals, exotic pets and wildlife and provide students and researchers with a rich and varied learning environment. MVetSci Advanced Clinical Practice: The degree has been running since September 2015 and provides a blend of theoretical and practical veterinary clinical education. You can choose to focus on a particular species or designation, or mix-and-match based on interests. Courses also provide transferable skills in critical thinking, problem solving, reflection, science communication and decision making. Additional accreditation A number of courses align with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP). Completing these taught courses may count as credit toward the RCVS CertAVP for students who are also enrolled with the RCVS for that qualification. The courses include production animal practice (sheep and cattle), feline medicine, equine behavioural medicine, and animal welfare, ethics, and law. RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice: This programme allows veterinary practitioners to tailor their studies to their needs. Students complete 30 credits in compulsory courses on standard diagnostics and professional skills, and then choose additional courses from the veterinary postgraduate portfolio. The programme is fully taught and can be completed over up to six years, offering flexibility for those who do not want to complete a dissertation research project. For those wishing to continue to PhD research, students can opt to complete a dissertation project. Individual courses allow you to upskill in a specific subject and can be taken as standalone study. Credits can also be put towards a postgraduate qualification, allowing you to work towards a full master’s degree. Upskilling Courses: Online study is designed to suit the needs of working vets by balancing professional and/or home lives. We work to ensure that our online platforms, curriculum, staff and support services are of the highest standard, so we can provide a learning environment in which our students thrive.
