Consumers aren't going to talk about using open finance. They're going to talk about what it helped them do. That's an important distinction from Jess Turner, EVP, Global Head of Open Finance & Developer Experience at Mastercard. Because however sophisticated the technology becomes, Jess believes humans still have to sit at the heart of the design. Consumers want choice. They want great digital experiences. And if they're going to share their financial data, there needs to be a clear reason why doing so makes something better for them. That's particularly important as open finance and AI create opportunities for much deeper personalisation. Jess believes that within the next three years, consumers could become increasingly accustomed to hyper-personalised experiences where their financial and wealth information helps tailor services far beyond today's use cases. But the technology itself won't be what determines success. The experience it enables will. 🎧 The latest episode of The Payments Shed Podcast, hosted by Kara Parkey, is out now. 📢 Olá, LATAM! 🌎🎙️ The Payments Shed is growing again! We're delighted to welcome Svante Westerberg to our hosting team, and the launch of a brand-new LATAM series. Svante is currently working at the intersection of payments and gaming, leading Xsolla Pay & Fintech. His 26-year payments career spans startups and global payments companies, including more than 15 years building payments businesses in Brazil and across Latin America. He brings that experience alongside a musician's ear and an enduring curiosity about how things work. He'll help kick off our LATAM series, bringing more of the region's people, stories and perspectives into the Shed's global conversations. Latin America is one of the most exciting payments markets in the world. Real-time rails are rewriting the rules, fintechs are scaling at speed, and the region's experience is shaping conversations far beyond its borders. It deserves its own spotlight, and Svante is the perfect person to bring it to the mic. 📍 Our new São Paulo studio will host recordings and episodes will be recorded in English and Portuguese. If you're building, scaling or shaking up payments anywhere in LATAM and want to come on the show, drop us a message. We'd love to hear your story. Bem-vindo à Shed, Svante! 👋 #Payments #Fintech #LATAM #Brazil #PaymentsShed #Podcast

We are delighted to be launching our new newsletter today; 'The Payments Shed Newsletter Presents: In Conversation With'. For our very first edition we were joined by Luciano Longo, Country Manager, Brazil at Mambu, to dive into the fascinating Brazilian payments market. Pix took away money's business hours in Brazil. So what comes next? Brazil is one of the world's most advanced instant payments markets. But as Luciano puts it, the question in 2026 is no longer whether a bank can process Pix. It's what it costs to keep changing everything around it. In this edition: 🇧🇷 The real "Pix effect" on cards, boletos and TED/DOC 🔁 Why Pix Automático opens up a recurring collections market that used to be protected 💳 Pix by Instalments: a payment on the front, a credit product behind it 🤝 How Pix and Open Finance combine, with Contactless Pix as the example 🌍 Cross-border with Swift, Mastercard Move and stablecoins, and why no single rail will win 🤖 Agentic AI: "What may an agent access, what may it do, and who supervises it?" One stat stood out to me: once the platform was in place, one Brazilian institution launched a new credit product in one week. Its previous projects had taken six months. Luciano also has a lesson for markets still working out their own instant payments strategy. Technical speed alone doesn't guarantee adoption, and if modernisation stops at the payment connection, the complexity just shows up somewhere else. Thanks to Luciano and the Mambu team for joining us on our very first edition. Please click subscribe so you don't miss the next edition. 🫵 #Payments #Pix #Brazil #InstantPayments #OpenFinance #CoreBanking

More than 70% of small businesses make a software decision before they make a payments decision. Sometimes, they don't consciously make a separate payments decision at all. That says a lot about where the US market is heading. In the latest episode of The Payments Shed Podcast, Jordan Reynolds from Checkout.com joins Grant Evans and Justin Hanna to unpack why Checkout.com is doubling down on the region. At one end of the market, software platforms are increasingly embedding payments directly into the experience. At the other, major merchants are deliberately spreading their payment infrastructure across multiple providers. Jordan shares one example of a $10 billion merchant working with four gateways, five acquirers and two issuers. Why? Because when payments are critical infrastructure, relying on a single provider creates its own risk. From embedded payments and direct acquiring to licensing, resilience and Checkout.com's wider North American strategy, this episode gets into what it actually takes to compete in what Jordan still describes as the “Wild West of payments.” 🎧 The latest episode of The Payments Shed Podcast, hosted by Grant Evans and Justin Hanna, comes out tomorrow - Stay Tuned!
