You can easily find cheaper paint. And if you're comparing suppliers on price per litre, that might look like the better deal. But I think there is a more useful question to ask: What does it cost you to get one finished part through the paint shop? Because the paint itself is only one part of that cost. You also have to consider how much material you use per part, how efficiently it's applied, how much rework you have and how much production time is lost when something goes wrong. Two coatings with different prices per litre can end up costing very different amounts per finished part. And there's another thing I would look at when comparing suppliers. Technical support. When a coating defect keeps coming back, who helps your team find the cause? Can your supplier send someone to the paint shop to look at the application process, check the conditions and work through the problem with your operators? Or are you left to figure it out yourself? You should compare what you're actually getting for your money: The cost per finished part, not just the price per litre. And make technical support part of that calculation.

Everybody wants “extra protection.” Until they see the extra invoice. If the specification says C3 Medium, why are you spraying to C4 Medium? More paint. More layers. More drying time. More cost. And usually, no added value. I still see too many coating processes built on habit instead of actual requirements. “We’ve always done it this way” is not a technical argument. Underspecifying is risky. Overspecifying is expensive. The goal is not to use more paint. The goal is to achieve the required performance as efficiently as possible. Every extra layer should justify itself technically and economically. Do what is necessary. Not what is traditional.

Your product is built to perform for years. Its coating should be too. Mechanical stress, weathering and everyday use all put coatings to the test. That's why the right coating system starts with understanding the conditions your product will face – not just how it should look. At Teknos, we help you make that choice.

We need a new line" is one of the first things I hear when a manufacturer is frustrated with their process. It's rarely the right starting point. Building a new paint line is expensive, and in most cases, unnecessary. Most ACE manufacturers can get major improvements by upgrading what they already have: layer thickness, curing methods, process flow. The only way to know which of those actually needs fixing is to go and look. We visit the site, observe the process running, and identify upgrade opportunities that deliver results without a major investment. That's also why I'm cautious about giving recommendations before seeing a line in person. Only by watching the process inaction and understanding the specific setup can we say what's worth changing. What this approach tends to deliver: - Avoiding a massive investment - A longer lifecycle for the equipment already on the floor - Better efficiency without downtime Small changes can deliver results that surprise people, without the cost of a new line. Before you plan a new investment: has anyone walked your current line and looked at it with fresh eyes?

Saved on the paint. Added another coating step. Did the part actually get cheaper?

You know what’s expensive? Coating the same part twice. A failed inspection sends the part back through handling, preparation and the paint booth. More labour, more paint and less capacity for the next job. That’s why at Teknos, we look beyond the coating itself. We want to understand the process behind it, find what causes problems and help make coating more reliable and repeatable.
