AI may be dominating the headlines, but a much bigger investment story is unfolding. From data centres and energy systems to advanced manufacturing and defence, the world is seeing a new wave of investment in physical infrastructure. It's what economists call a capital expenditure supercycle. More investment means more projects to build and protect. For re/insurers, that brings questions about construction risks, increasingly complex facilities and the potential for natural catastrophes to affect multiple high-value assets in one location. 🎙️ In the latest episode of Swiss Re's Risk REconsidered podcast, Jimmy Keime, Head Engineering & Nuclear, and Arnaud Vanolli, Senior Insurance Economist at Swiss Re Institute, join host John Miller to explore what's driving this investment boom and what it takes to insure projects of this scale. 🎧 Tune into the latest episode: https://ow.ly/MRNx5100WtH

When disaster strikes, finding the money to respond isn't always straightforward. Governments still have bills to pay even as the costs of recovery begin to mount. For a municipality, those financial pressures can affect something as basic as clearing the streets after a severe event. But what if some of the money committed to debt repayments could be used for recovery instead? In our latest Risk REconsidered podcast, Marina Oberholzer and Gerry Lemcke from our Public Sector Solutions team explore how insurance-linked loans could make that possible. 📺 YouTube: https://ow.ly/eU4G5100oHl 🎧 Spotify: https://ow.ly/1kzR5100oHk

The Silver Economy: A Blue Ocean of opportunity for Life insurers We are witnessing an important shift in how people plan for retirement, and I am convinced this represents one of the most exciting growth opportunities for our industry. As populations age and pension reforms give individuals greater responsibility and flexibility over their savings, retirement is becoming less of a single financial event and more of an ongoing journey. For life insurers worldwide, this opens up a blue ocean of opportunity to demonstrate our unique value proposition and expertise in managing health, longevity and financial risks. To capture this opportunity, I see three strategic priorities: 1.- Engage earlier. Some of the most important financial decisions happen years before people stop working, from retirement income and investment risk to wealth transfer and later-life care. We need to be part of these conversations sooner. 2.- Understand how customers make decisions. Banks, financial advisers and brokers play different roles across markets. Understanding where customers seek advice, whom they trust and how they make decisions is essential. 3.- Be present at the moments that matter. It is not necessarily about owning the customer relationship, but about ensuring the right solutions are available through the right channels when customers make important financial decisions. The opportunity is not simply to serve an ageing population. It is to rethink how our industry creates value throughout longer lives. Watch the full video and explore our latest Swiss Re Institute sigma 4/2026 to discover how evolving retirement needs, the growing role of independent advisers and brokers, industry consolidation, and AI and technology are reshaping how Life insurers reach customers and compete. https://lnkd.in/ecYkgN_g #SilverEconomy #LifeInsurance #Longevity #Retirement #SwissRe

Not all cancers will benefit equally from medical progress. In the final publication of our 2026 cancer research series, we explore how cancer risks and outcomes could evolve over the next two decades and what this means for Life & Health insurance. Our latest research at Swiss Re projects declining mortality rates for five major cancers in the US and UK over the next 20 years. However, the pace of improvement varies considerably across cancer types. Key drivers of future progress will be prevention, earlier detection and more effective treatments. Lung cancer is projected to see some of the strongest mortality improvements, while pancreatic cancer remains particularly challenging to detect early and treat effectively. Understanding these differences is essential as we look at how cancer outcomes could evolve over the coming decades. Explore Swiss Re's 20-year cancer and insurance outlook https://lnkd.in/emMDph-b

Europe's wildfire risk is changing. Is the insurance industry keeping pace? 🔥 Wildfires are no longer just a Mediterranean concern. In 2025, Spain experienced its largest burned area in more than two decades. In 2026, France surpassed its own previous 20-year annual records. Meanwhile, significant fires affected countries including the UK, Belgium and Germany. For European re/insurers, the implications go beyond the growing geographic footprint of wildfire. As extreme fire weather, land use and exposure patterns evolve, historical losses alone may no longer provide a reliable picture of future risk. In their latest article, Swiss Re's Rogier de Jong and Balz Grollimund explore why wildfire deserves greater attention in European risk assessments and what insurers can do to stay ahead. 👉 Read the article: https://ow.ly/VRr850ZZZJF

What will cancer incidence and mortality look like in 20 years? That's the question we set out to explore in our latest Swiss Re research. We modelled how cancer incidence and mortality could develop for five major cancers – breast, colorectal, lung, pancreatic and prostate – which account for around half of all cancer diagnoses and deaths in the US and UK. Our projections point to significant improvements in mortality for these five cancers: • US: Mortality rates could decline by 19–38% by 2044. • UK: Mortality rates could decline by 14–36% by 2043. However the pace of improvement will vary considerably by cancer type, while the outlook for incidence is more mixed. For us in the L&H industry, understanding both trends is essential. Falling mortality may reduce life insurance claims, while rising incidence and longer survival could increase critical illness claims and the need for ongoing care.
