At Stony Brook Medicine, our mission is to care for our community today and to prepare those who will care for it tomorrow. This year, the Renaissance School of Medicine, in partnership with Stony Brook’s Black Men in White Coats chapter, brought that mission to life via its third annual Youth Summit. Hundreds of students from grades 3–12 spent the day exploring careers in medicine through mentorship, inspiration, and hands-on learning. #WeAreStonyBrookMedicine #BlackMenInWhiteCoats #FutureOfMedicine #HealthEquity #DiversityInHealthcare

When we think about what makes healthcare work, it often comes down to people – the physicians and care team who sit beside patients in their most vulnerable moments. Across New York and the United States, however, we face an alarming physician shortage that threatens this foundation. Senator Schumer’s bipartisan Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act is an important step forward. We know that most residents stay in the communities where they train. By expanding the number of residency slots, we can train more doctors, especially in high-need fields like primary care, psychiatry, geriatrics, and OB-GYN and benefit communities from Los Angeles to Long Island. At Stony Brook Medicine, we see the need every day. Expanding the training pipeline will help ensure every patient, in every community, has a doctor by their side. https://bit.ly/4nnuB9h
