The final cut makes the difference. 💡 By the time nickel-based superalloys reach finish turning, much of a component’s value is already in the workpiece. Dimensional accuracy, surface integrity and finish now have to be exactly right. That’s why we developed our new CBN grade BST 300: for finish turning #HRSA materials in Stage 3, where every micron counts. What sets it apart: 🔹 Precision edge preparation at the micron level - for sharp cutting geometry, reduced cutting forces and less vibration 🔹 Fine-grain CBN structure with high-quality binders - for Ra < 0.8 µm over long periods in cut 🔹 Controlled wear behavior - for repeatable contours on high-value components The key is how the materials work together: ceramic handles roughing and semi-finishing (Stages 1 and 2), while #CBN finish-turns the component to its final contour (Stage 3). Each cutting material is used where its physical strengths come into their own. The result: high-speed finishing with process reliability - right where the most is at stake in HRSA components. BST 300 - available from late 2026. Already planning demanding HRSA finishing processes? Let’s talk early. 🤝

38 mph at the cutting edge ⏩ That is how fast the #CuttingEdge moves relative to the workpiece when rough-milling gray #CastIron with our ceramic grade LKM 880. This corresponds to 1,000 m/min, many times what is typical for rough machining with carbide. And it is completely dry. Nodular cast iron can also be milled at up to 800 m/min. This is made possible by the combination of high toughness and very good wear resistance. The cutting edge maintains this speed reliably, and you feel it directly on the machine: high material removal rates, shorter #machining times, and more parts per shift. In addition, there is dry machining. No cutting fluid needs to be maintained, changed, or disposed of. The chips stay clean and the process becomes leaner. Faster, cleaner, and simpler: in the right process, ceramic can simply do more. 😎

Exactly where #machining gets demanding, #ceramics show their strengths. 💥 Heavy interrupted cutting in cast iron. Hard machining with a pulling cut at high depth of cut. HRSA materials such as Inconel, where heat determines the process. For many applications, these are the most challenging conditions. For ceramic cutting tools, they are precisely the operating windows in which they can fully demonstrate their potential. We showed this live at the CeramTec / SPK test center with INDEX as our guest: 🔹 A cast iron shaft in heavy interrupted cutting – process reliability where toughness matters 🔹 Hard machining with a pulling cut at high depth of cut 🔹 Turning an Inconel shaft with an HPC tool 🔹 An all-ceramic milling cutter on Inconel – HRSA machining at its best No theory, but real machining you can see and experience – with cutting parameters demonstrating what is possible when the cutting material and the process are perfectly matched. And that is exactly the point: When high-performance machine tools from INDEX meet high-performance cutting materials from SPK, one party benefits in particular at the end of the day: our joint customer. 🤝 Thank you to the INDEX team for a day full of fascinating machining processes and valuable technical exchange! #HRSA #Inconel #INDEX

For hardened steels in a continuous cut, ceramics are a real alternative! 💡 Carbide, if at all, is often only a very limited option for hard machining. CBN stands for high performance, but at a high cost per cutting edge. In stable hard-finishing jobs, mixed ceramics can be a serious option – above all when size accuracy, surface and repeatable tool life matter. The decisive point is the operating conditions: ✅ continuous cut ✅ defined engagement ✅ clean clamping ✅ suitable edge preparation ✅ clear tool-change rules Set the process up right, and it becomes plannable and brings real value. Whether ceramics make sense in this process window – and whether they bring advantages to your machining – is shown by the SPK Ceramic Fit Check. ➡️ Go straight to the SPK Ceramic Fit Check and find out whether ceramics help you turn hard materials in your production: https://www.spktools.de/
