Over the last few months, quite a number of the conversations I've had with developers, operators, asset owners and investors across the North American market have centred on the gap between what projects *now* require vs what existing tools, data and workflows can reliably support. This shows up in a few different ways… -Project designs that have become too complex for established modelling workflows -Project assumptions facing increasing scrutiny from lenders, insurers and independent engineers -Filling operational data gaps caused by missing SCADA and sensor data -Forecast performance that isn't reliable enough to support trading and dispatch decisions And I suspect these will be familiar conversations at RE+ Las Vegas in a few weeks! If you’re going and any of these resonate – let’s find the time to chat. Book a meeting here: https://lnkd.in/eEa98UQu

Across the North American power market, were hearing the same themes come up repeatedly: 📉 Forecasts that arent reliable enough to trade on 📉 Recurring seasonal bias 📉 Over-forecasting in constrained markets 📉 Forecast weaknesses that only become apparent when real dispatch or trading decisions are on the line Whats particularly interesting is that many of these arent random misses. In a growing number of cases, teams are dealing with repeatable failure modes: • Forecasts that consistently underperform during winter months • Models that struggle under specific weather conditions • Forecasts that fail to adequately account for transmission constraints and resulting curtailment The challenge isnt just forecast accuracy. Its understanding where and why forecasts break down, and whether those weaknesses create commercial risk. I expect this to be a major topic of discussion at RE+ this year. If these challenges sound familiar, lets connect and compare notes. 📅 16-19 November 📍 Booth C7672, Central Hall 🏢 Las Vegas Convention Center Book a meeting with our team here: https://lnkd.in/ggjCbU3x Looking forward to seeing everyone in Vegas. #REplus #EnergyTrading #PowerMarkets #RenewableEnergy #Forecasting #SolarForecasting #GridOperations #EnergyAnalytics #SolarEnergy #DNV #Solcast

Legacy yield modelling tools are deeply embedded in how the solar industry works, but today’s complex projects are becoming harder to model within these workflows. Developers and engineering teams have built processes around legacy tools, from design and resource assessment through to independent engineering review and financing. But projects aren’t getting simpler. Everyone is seeing more complex terrain, more tracker configurations, larger team and more bespoke project layouts. Legacy tools remain trusted and widely accepted by lenders, investors and independent engineers, which is exactly what makes this challenge so difficult. This is frequent topic we hear and if you want to know how DNV experts are solving them for some of the biggest companies in the world – let’s have a chat at RE+ or virtually. Heading to RE+ in a few weeks? I'll be there with the DNV team and look forward to connecting with colleagues, customers and industry peers. Some of the key conversations were having in the lead up are: • Improving trading and dispatch decisions with high-resolution forecasts • Legacy modelling tools remaining entrenched despite growing frustration • Managing increasingly complex project designs within existing workflows • Distinguishing weather impacts from asset problems • Operational blind spots caused by missing weather station and SCADA data • Responding to increasing lender scrutiny of project assumptions If any of these challenges sound familiar, lets have a conversation. One problem keeps coming up lately. As power networks struggle to adapt to increasingly variable load, regulators are enforcing stricter scheduling requirements and imposing stronger penalties for forecasting errors than ever before. We've been handling this problem across multiple markets for over 10 years, and along the way, we've learnt some valuable lessons. The article below summarises our key learnings and offers solutions to reduce penalty exposure. Read the post: https://lnkd.in/gEVHiURQ

Europe’s renewable energy market is becoming increasingly sophisticated. As more operators rely on digital tools to support day-ahead planning and operational decision-making, forecast quality is becoming increasingly critical. A forecast that's good on average isn't a forecast that is truly reliable. And what increasingly matters is how forecasts perform under changing conditions, when the consequences of getting it wrong are greatest.
