I couldn’t be prouder of Sky’s partnership with Goals 4 Girls and The Alessia Russo Foundation, brought to life through The Alessia Cup, presented by Sky 🏆 This brilliant event yesterday brought together 180 girls in North London, helping them build confidence, teamwork and resilience both on and off the pitch. Our Game Changing report found that girls miss out on 280 million hours of sport every year compared to boys. That must change, and tournaments like this are exactly what’s needed to give girls more opportunities to play. Initiatives like this show what’s possible when organisations come together to keep girls engaged and inspired to succeed, through sport. 🎬 Watch to see more of the day or find out more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eqy2Szdm

I sat down with Rachel Wolf, CEO of Public First, to reflect on the findings of our recent report collaboration, Game Changing: How sport gives every girl a better chance. It shines a light on the participation gap between boys and girls in sport across the UK, and the lasting impact this has not only on girls’ lives, but on our society as a whole. That’s why we’ve developed a number of policy asks for Government, spanning updates to the PE curriculum, equal sports provision, uniform guidance to accommodate body image, culture and comfort, and a tax break on the broadcast of women’s sport - because we know how important it is for girls to see their sporting heroes on screen. Thank you, Rachel, for a fantastic discussion. I encourage you to read the full report, the findings and our recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/ed6BHDNy

If we want to close the gender gap in sport, we need to start by listening to girls themselves. These young players at Arsenal F.C Women’s Youth Academy shared why they choose to play sport. They’re proud, passionate and dedicated, but they faced barriers to the game they love. Their voices underline the urgent need for change. Our new research with Public First shows the economic, health and professional benefits that too many girls are missing out on. That’s why Sky is calling for national action, while also supporting women’s sport directly, as the UK’s leading investor in women’s sports rights. Sport has always been a big part of my life. Growing up it gave me confidence, taught me discipline, and helped me learn how to lead, skills that have shaped who I am and supported me throughout my career. That’s why I’m so proud that Sky is launching a new partnership with Alessia Russo and Goals 4 Girls, because the barriers to girls playing sport are still far too high. Our new report with Public First, Game Changing: How sport gives every girl a better chance, shows that girls who play sport as children are 50% more likely to reach senior roles, a predictor as powerful as a university degree. It also shows what we stand to gain: closing the gender gap in participation could unlock £6.5 billion in economic and health benefits by 2035. So at Sky, we’re calling for national action through meaningful policy asks, and backing it with real change. Together with Alessia and Goals 4 Girls, we’re launching a new football tournament for girls, creating access and visibility for those who need it most. 📖 Read the full report and our proposals here: https://lnkd.in/e3RpfZyE

"If she can see it, she can be it.” It’s been said so much, it feels like a cliché. Yet independent research into why so many girls give up on sport, proves that it’s true. Over half of girls surveyed said that watching sport inspires them to play it. And we’re hearing the same thing from Arsenal’s amazing U21 squad. Playing sport brings incredible benefits to people’s lives – it makes us healthier, happier and according to our research, even contributes to our success at work. Find out how we can keep girls watching, playing and winning through sport in our new report with Public First, 'Game Changing: How sport gives every girl a better chance' ⤵️
