In today’s Budget, the Chancellor sought to deliver a commitment to UK manufacturing businesses by coordinating two flagship policy agendas, the ambitious UK Modern Industrial Strategy and the foundational Corporate Tax Roadmap. Her aim was to provide much-needed certainty and forge an environment where industry can thrive. While the commitment to tax stability and capital investment offers an essential bedrock of certainty, the true test lies in the timelines for delivering the more transformative elements. The crucial reduction in crippling energy costs is still subject to a consultation and won't take effect until 2027. Similarly, the promised £4.3 billion for Advanced Manufacturing is a long-term pledge. The question is whether these future-focused promises will arrive fast enough to counteract immediate global pressures, or if the gap between today’s certainty and tomorrow’s delivery will stall the very growth the Chancellor seeks to ignite. This Budget sets the destination, but the speed of the journey remains the critical unknown. https://lnkd.in/eebrjQQ5 #AutumnBudget2025 #AutumnBudget #Budget

After a lot of conversations over the last six weeks, the budget is now known. From concerns over attracting and maintaining talent with risks of rises in income tax and changes to pensions, to wanting to see improvements on our incentive schemes, what has come out of the budget for the Media and Tech sector? After income tax rates were ruled out, we are still seeing changes on rates to dividend and savings income, and NIC’s being levied on pension contributions over £2,000. Will this be detrimental to attracting talent? It’s not yet known, but there are positive movements to making visa applications easier for talent. In addition, while incentive schemes remain unchanged, investment continues through the industrial programme, with regional commitments including two AI growth zones and semiconductor funding in Wales. We’ve also seen a commitment to support not only start-ups but scale-ups, with wider EMI eligibility and increased VC and EIS investment capacity. This should aid the critical scaling activity needed across our technology businesses. https://lnkd.in/euh8GepY #AutumnBudget2025 #AutumnBudget #Budget Ben Bilsland, David Blacher, Richard Heap, Kirsty Fraser, Laura B.

Today’s Budget was a mixed bag for leisure and hospitality operators. The rise in national minimum wage (particularly the 8.5% uplift for under-20s) places a significant burden on the industry and is likely to accelerate the unemployment trends already seen this year. Conversely, the long-promised rates reform is good news for high-street operators and should offset some of the increased employment costs. However, the system will need careful calibration to avoid penalising businesses in larger premises that are equally in need of support. For many, there will be a sigh of relief. Increased taxes on slot machines have been ruled out, while sugar taxes for milky drinks are limited to pre-bottled beverages, saving coffee operators from further price pressure. Bingo duties have also been abolished, supporting the casual gaming sector. Consumers have largely been spared from tax rises. Higher minimum wages, cuts to energy bills and no broad increases in taxes for most working people should leave more cash in people’s pockets, potentially reviving discretionary spending. After years of subdued consumer confidence, this is welcome news for operators.
