It was a privilege to host Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen at the ROCKWOOL Group factory in Ranson, WV today, highlighting Danish manufacturing investments in the United States. Coming online in 2021, this is our most recent U.S. stone wool factory, and we’re already building the next one in Washington state and looking for land for the next one after that. A big thanks to Danish Ambassador to the United States Jesper Møller Sørensen and his team for their collaboration and to my colleagues at ROCKWOOL North America for creating such a great opportunity to showcase our newest manufacturing facility here.

Energy efficiency and fire safety must go hand in hand. As Europe accelerates building renovations to meet climate goals, we must ensure that improved energy performance doesn't compromise fire safety. 85% of EU buildings predate the year 2000, many built with solid, fire-resistant materials like brick, stone, and concrete. But as these buildings are retrofitted with new insulation, cladding, and systems, new considerations arise. The risk is real. Some materials commonly used to hit energy targets are combustible. Without careful material selection, the risk landscape against fires may be transformed across millions of buildings. Together with The Observer UK, we’ve explored this topic in detail. Very often, when we talk about the energy transition we think of solar fields and wind farms. In reality, a huge part of it happens in walls, roofs and façades. However, energy efficiency in buildings still moves too slowly. The main constraint on renovating our building stock is not the technology. It is financial mechanisms that are created to promote retrofits, trained installers, resilient building codes and insurers who know what they are underwriting. In Europe, this is urgent. Buildings account for roughly 40% of EU energy use. Most of the stock that will exist in 2050 is already standing, and the renovation rate is stuck around 1% a year. The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive #EPBD is now moving from Brussels into the plans of the Member States. The solutions are known. Insulation, heat pumps, smart controls, performance standards. What we lack is the capacity to deliver them at scale and to deliver them safely. That last word matters. A renovation wave that improves energy performance but introduces fire risk into the façade is not modernisation. Energy efficiency and fire safety have to be designed together from day one. #EPBD #RenovationWave #FireSafety #EnergyEfficiency #BuiltEnvironment #ROCKWOOL #IfitsWorthBuilding

One tiny remote island. 65,000 inhabitants. More than 80% of its food is imported. So how does Bermuda build food resilience? Where land and freshwater are limited, resilience depends on using every drop of water and every square metre as efficiently as possible. As we commemorate World Food Day 2026, check out the video to see how Grodan is helping strengthen local food production.

Can a building be sustainable if it isn't built to last? When we talk about sustainability in buildings, we often talk about carbon, energy, and materials. While they are vital parts of the equation, a building also has to last, perform over several decades, and keep people safe. If sustainability is about protecting the future, a building has to survive into that future. Building professionals rank durability, thermal performance, and fire safety as top priorities when choosing insulation. After all, a low-carbon building that isn't resilient isn't a sustainable building. Evidence suggests that public opinion shares that perspective. From a recent poll conducted by ROCKWOOL Group only 18% of Europeans think combustible materials should be legal on new homes and clear majorities reject the idea that combustible façade materials are safe, regardless of their sustainability claims - 64-87% also won't accept green initiatives that weaken fire safety. So what does this all mean? The climate transition cannot run with a safety blind spot. Europe is retrofitting at speed, and we need to ensure that safety is as central to the discussion and initiative as energy efficiency. True sustainability is resilience. Decarbonisation and resilience belong in the same definition of progress. #resilience #firesafety #renovationwave #decarbonisation #rockwool
