Berlin, see you at Smart Country Convention! 🇩🇪 I'll be at Smart Country Convention in Berlin from October 13-15, together with Damovo, to present Damovo's SovereignStack, a sovereign digital workplace with Rocket.Chat as the secure communication layer. Public sector organizations across Europe are asking the same question: how do we modernize collaboration without giving up control of our data? SovereignStack answers it with full data sovereignty, self-managed deployment, and security that meets the demands of government, defense, and other regulated environments. 📍 Booth 539, Hall 26 📅 October 13-15 If you work in public administration, defence, or critical infrastructure and want to talk about secure, sovereign communications, come by. I'd love to meet you. I'll be there with Matthias Berchtold, Christian Calcagni and the rest of Damovo's team. #SmartCountryConvention #DigitalSovereignty #SecureCollaboration #Defence #PublicSector

65% of German public authorities run on IT services governed by foreign law. That's the headline in this week's eGovernment piece on digital sovereignty. Its point: less debate, more deployable stacks. Damovo's Matthias Berchtold puts it plainly: "What's needed now is a shift from the fundamental debate to practical implementation." That's what SovereignStack is built for: Damovo brings together three technology providers, Rocket.Chat, Pexip, and Mitel, into one accredited foundation, hosted in German data centers. Rocket.Chat brings the technology: open-source, self-hosted messaging with Matrix federation built in, deployable air-gapped. Damovo brings the integration: connecting it into existing UC, voice, identity, and security environments, then handling migration, rollout, and managed services to keep it running. German public administrations have until the end of March 2027 to provide digitally sovereign alternatives. That decision came from federal and state heads of government, and it turns sovereignty from a strategy discussion into a delivery deadline. What institutions need next is something that fits the infrastructure they already run. That's the work we do with Damovo. Rocket.Chat Secure CommsOS® brings messaging, voice, video, AI, and security-critical applications together on infrastructure the institution owns: on-premises, air-gapped, or in a sovereign cloud. Damovo integrates it into existing environments and operates it from Germany with their own team. Rocket.Chat sits inside their SovereignStack alongside Pexip for secure video and Mitel for telephony. Damovo is presenting SovereignStack at the Smart Country Convention in Berlin, 12–14 October. Worth a conversation if true digital sovereignty is on your roadmap. Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e5FpqGjP #DigitalSovereignty #PublicSector #OpenSource #SovereignCloud

🇸🇪 Huge Milestone for Digital Sovereignty in Sweden! With global geopolitical tensions rising, secure and adaptable digital communication has officially become critical infrastructure. Relying on isolated tech stacks is no longer just a procurement risk—it’s a vulnerability to an organization's long-term operational resilience. That is why the latest announcement from Sweden’s eSamverkansprogrammet - eSam is such a massive milestone. A live federation is now up and running between Trafikverket (The Swedish Transport Administration) using Rocket.Chat and Försäkringskassan (The Swedish Social Insurance Agency) using Element. By leveraging open standards and flexible architectures, this project proves that public sector organizations can achieve cross-boundary collaboration while maintaining absolute authority over their digital environment: - True Interoperability: Thanks to open protocols, Rocket.Chat users can now seamlessly and securely communicate with users on another Matrix supported platforms. - The Strength of Open Architecture: Ecosystems built on open standards provide the ultimate foundation for long-term viability. Instead of relying on rigid, isolated environments, organizations can easily pivot, scale, and integrate new solutions as global technological requirements evolve. - Complete Digital Sovereignty: Real security means keeping full control over your data, its location, and the underlying infrastructure. This federation proves that public agencies can connect seamlessly without sacrificing data ownership or compliance. Kudos to the teams at eSam, Trafikverket, and Försäkringskassan for leading the charge and building a brilliant blueprint for secure, flexible, and self-determined digital infrastructure. Europe's Defence 2.0 is here—but is your digital strategy ready to support it? 🇪🇺 The release of Germany’s first military strategy since WWII, combined with the historic rearmament across Europe, confirms a tectonic pivot. But as Europe scale their physical arsenals, a more complex challenge has emerged: The Interoperability Paradox. The lessons from the front lines in Ukraine have been unforgiving. They have shown that modern defense rests on three non-negotiable digital pillars: - The End of Centralized Command: Ukraine proved that a "decentralized digital mesh" outpaces rigid hierarchies. Success depends on the ability for a unit at the edge to securely share intelligence across branches—and across borders—in real-time. - The Sovereignty of Data: In a high-intensity conflict, reliance on SaaS solutions is a strategic vulnerability. When electronic warfare and hybrid threats target infrastructure, the ability to host and control your own communication is a matter of national survival. - Federation without Compromise: True defense integration across European countries and NATO’s Eastern Flank requires a "Digital Bridge." We need systems that allow a British-led task force to communicate with German or Polish counterparts without any nation surrendering its own data sovereignty. Whether it’s the UK’s focus on the Digital Targeting Web or the EU's push for Strategic Autonomy, the goal for 2026 is clear: We must build a digital infrastructure that is as resilient as the hardware it controls. We are moving toward an era of Open-Standard Defense. The days of proprietary, closed-loop systems that don't talk to each other are over. The future belongs to interoperable, sovereign, and encrypted ecosystems that ensure our data remains our own—no matter how the geopolitical winds shift. The question for leadership across the continent is simple: Is your communication infrastructure an asset to your mobility, or a bottleneck to your sovereignty?
