A lead told me she'd asked ChatGPT two questions before our call: who's the best GEO agency, and who's the best GEO expert. We came up first in both. She only mentioned it when I asked how she'd found us, before we'd even gotten into a proper sales call. I have never tried to rank myself personally, so hearing that caught me off guard. The question behind all of it is how a founder becomes the one a model actually quotes. I don't think there's one clean answer. For me, it's a mix of things sitting underneath the LinkedIn presence. A real team page with an author bio for each person, not just names. Long-form content about what I've actually worked on. A LinkedIn profile that isn't just a logo, with articles posted from my own account instead of the company page. Admittedly, I can't tell you which one of those actually did the work. But together, they're the only explanation I've got. Does your site have a real team page a model could quote, or a stock photo and two lines?

We pay for tools that show where AI cites our clients’ competitors and not them. Microsoft just started showing that for free. Bing is the search engine everyone forgets about. It's also where our own agency went from zero to 58 AI citations. Now Microsoft has added a tab to Bing Webmaster Tools that shows you the questions where Copilot and Bing's AI summaries cite other sites and not you. It's called Topics Portfolio, it's free, and the data comes straight from the engine itself. That's normally the kind of data we pay AI visibility tools for. We pick the prompts that matter for a client, compare them with their competitors, and look at where they're missing. Getting a version of that from Microsoft directly is a pretty good start. The numbers aren't exact, and Microsoft says so itself. They come as ranges, and the advice is to use them for direction. Which is how I'd read every AI visibility tool. If you already have Bing Webmaster Tools set up, have a look. And if you don’t, this tab alone is a decent reason to. Smaller sites might not see it yet, though.

A page can be in good shape for Google and still be unreadable to a model. Search engines have coped with badly built pages for twenty years, so it stopped being anyone's problem. But AI models are less forgiving. They'll only lift a claim that stands up on its own, and the plainest version of that is still an FAQ block. A question, and under it an answer that makes sense to someone who has read nothing else on the site. So a site can pass every check it has ever been given and still give a model nothing to work with.
