Britain needs 1.5 million new homes in five years and building near railway stations could be the answer. Stations drive local economies (£98 billion a year!) and 73 % of us already see them as community assets. Turning disused rail land into housing like the York Station redevelopment means more connected, sustainable neighbourhoods, less car use, and thriving local high streets. It’s time for housing and rail to work together to solve the crisis. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eCCHAHkm

Trespassing on the railway is not harmless. It’s dangerous, it’s illegal, and it can have serious consequences. The new Crime with Consequences campaign from Network Rail, British Transport Police and rail industry partners is highlighting that those who trespass risk being caught, prosecuted, fined or receiving a criminal record. Across the railway, drones, sensors and smart CCTV are helping identify and catch trespassers faster than ever. The campaign aims to challenge the perception that trespass is a low-risk activity and remind people that: End of the line. Trespassing is a crime. By sharing this message consistently across the industry, we can help raise awareness, deter deliberate trespass and keep people away from the railway.

A more accessible railway means more opportunities for everyone. Rail connects people to the places, opportunities and moments that matter. For disabled people and those with reduced mobility, accessible journeys can make a real difference to their confidence and freedom. The Accessibility Roadmap sets out practical, achievable steps to improve accessibility across the rail network, with improvements already underway and more planned as part of establishing Great British Railways. Together, these actions will help build a strong foundation for GBR to deliver a simpler, safer and more accessible railway for everyone. Find out more about the Accessibility Roadmap.

Accessible journeys build confidence, independence and opportunity. Through the Accessibility Roadmap, our industry is working together to remove barriers and make it easier for disabled people and those with reduced mobility to travel freely on the railways. By delivering practical improvements now, we're building a strong foundation for a more accessible railway under Great British Railways. Find out more about the Accessibility Roadmap.

Irlam Station is the winner of the World Cup of Stations 2026! 🏆 After a week of public voting, Irlam in Manchester has been crowned this year’s winner of our #WorldCupOfStations competition. From school visits and railway heritage tours to its popular café, Irlam is much more than a place to catch a train. It brings generations together, creates new memories and gives the local community a place to connect. Thank you to everyone who voted and to all 20 shortlisted stations for sharing their stories. This year’s competition celebrated the stations creating connections that matter, and Irlam is a brilliant example of what that means. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dvU2Fv-9
