Business outcomes start with process redesign One of the biggest shifts I've noticed in conversations with enterprise leaders over the past year is that AI discussions have become much more practical. The CXOs seeing measurable results are spending less time debating models and platforms and more time examining how work gets done across their organizations. A financial services organization I work with recently redesigned its client onboarding process for wealth management services. Instead of routing activities through multiple teams, AI now supports document verification, risk profiling, and account setup within a single workflow. The result was a reduction in onboarding time from two weeks to three days. What stands out about this example is that the biggest change wasn't the technology itself; the organization took the opportunity to rethink how decisions were made, how work moved between teams, and where delays were being introduced. Research supports what many leaders are seeing firsthand. McKinsey has identified workflow redesign as one of the strongest indicators of whether AI initiatives translate into measurable business value. MIT research has also found that organizations working with specialized AI providers achieve higher success rates than those attempting to build every capability internally. The organizations making the greatest progress are focused on business outcomes first. They understand the process they want to improve, identify where AI can contribute, and bring in the expertise required to accelerate results. Technology remains an important part of the equation, but more challenging work is often organizational as it requires teams to rethink long-established processes and make decisions about how work should operate going forward. The leaders achieving meaningful outcomes are willing to have those conversations. In my experience, that's where the greatest value is being created.
