In a few days the annual meeting of the International Bar Association comes to Copenhagen. I am very much looking forward to welcoming friends, clients and colleagues from around the world to our beautiful city. Having attended the IBA for many years, one of the things I value most is still the same: the opportunity to meet people, renew relationships and have the important conversations that simply work better when you are in the same room. That may actually matter more as AI changes our profession and legal knowledge becomes easier to access across jurisdictions. But AI does not make lawyers and professional relationships less important. Access to legal knowledge is not the same as qualified advice and judgement calls by individuals that you know and trust. How can expert evidence make international arbitration more effective? During IBA week in Copenhagen, Plesner and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) invite arbitration practitioners to discuss one of the most important issues in modern arbitration: expert witness evidence. Drawing on Ciarb’s report on expert witness evidence, the panel brings together arbitrators, counsel and expert witnesses to share practical perspectives on how experts can be appointed, managed and heard more effectively – supporting both sound decision-making and efficient proceedings. “In complex cross-border disputes, expert evidence is often pivotal. We look forward to discussing how tribunals, counsel and experts can work together to ensure that it is presented and tested effectively,” says Jimmy Skjold Hansen, Head of Arbitration at Plesner.
