Josh Swanson, a long-time volunteer at the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota, has been selected as the 2025 PGA TOUR Volunteer of the Year! With the award, the PGA TOUR will donate $10,000 to the charity of Swanson’s choosing – the Minnesota 100 Club, an organization founded in 1972 with a purpose to provide financial aid to families of First Responders who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. Swanson began his volunteer journey when he was just 11 years old, working in the ecology committee at the 1993 Burnet Senior Classic, a PGA TOUR Champions event in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Thirty-two years later, he and his wife Katie now lead the Tournament & TV Operations Committee at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities, assisting with various on-course event set-up projects including hanging TVs and securing large mesh panels and signage. Swanson’s year was not without its challenges. In May, he received the shocking news that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Undeterred, he insisted on continuing his volunteer leadership duties ahead of the July event, all while enduring his regular cancer treatments.

The PGA TOUR announced today that the Hilton Head Island Deep Well Project, a non-profit beneficiary of the RBC Heritage, has been named the 2025 PGA TOUR Charity of the Year. The organization was recently surprised with the honor during an event staff outing to repair the home of a local resident. While the Deep Well Project was initially founded in 1973 to provide clean, safe drinking water on Hilton Head Island, it has since been the source of emergency assistance to the local community. Its primary focal point is housing for a workforce that is integral to the dynamic hospitality-oriented business economy of the Island. Deep Well’s Emergency Rent/Mortgage Program steps in to pay all or part of a local resident’s housing payment after documenting the family has suffered an unexpected loss of income or unexpected expense, leaving them at risk of being homeless. In the first 10 months of this year, Deep Well paid $516,000 in rent and mortgage payments, helping keep 1,600 people safe, stable and working. Deep Well will set a record this year in homes repaired with 100 homes already repaired, and another 10-15 homes to be completed by the end of 2025. The Charity of the Year award comes with a $30,000 grant from the PGA TOUR, which will go toward Deep Well’s Emergency Rent/Mortgage and Livable Housing Home Repair programs to help mitigate the housing challenges of the Island’s workforce.

"While our competitive model is evolving, we are also reimagining our philanthropic strategy, and we remain committed to making a positive impact. We are deeply grateful for the generous $13 million gift from former PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem and his wife, Holly, to PGA Tour Charities ... Since 1968, the PGA Tour has been guided by the belief that golf can be a force for good. As the PGA Tour grows, so will our ability to support the communities where we play. From expanding mental health programs for military members and youth to removing barriers to access the game of golf, the PGA Tour – in collaboration with its tournament host organizations – continues to help communities drive positive change and growth. In this year’s Community Impact report, you will read about many of the lives and communities uplifted and strengthened by the PGA Tour and its events, partners, fans and volunteers, including a continued commitment to our $100 million pledge, which has more than doubled in support for our philanthropic partners since first launching in 2020." -Brian Rolapp Learn more in the 2026 Community Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/gjMxJy4f
