Global biopharma company GSK is investing hundreds of millions of dollars to expand in Pennsylvania — again. Today, the company announced it plans to invest over $800 million to expand its facilities in Upper Merion Township, establishing a biopharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing hub that will integrate commercial production, research & development, and advanced digital capabilities in a single site. Over the next five years, this investment will also create over 300 new jobs, spurring further growth for PA's life sciences industry. This isn't the first time GSK has bet big on Pennsylvania. In 2024, the company announced an up to $800 million investment to expand its vaccine manufacturing and research & development operations in Lancaster County. With today's announcement, the company has announced a total of $1.7 billion in private investment in Pennsylvania within two years. There's no denying the momentum in Pennsylvania's life sciences industry. GSK joins Eli Lilly and Company, Johnson & Johnson, and SCHOTT Pharma in choosing the Commonwealth as the place where the next generation of vaccines and health care innovations are being researched, tested and manufactured, before changing lives across the United States.
