Over the past 25 years, Chester and Montgomery counties have grown into a hub of economic opportunity and prosperity, but this kind of growth will not be sustainable without the necessary high-quality infrastructure to support the community. That is why we are investing $143 million into upgrading the Lock 57 Water Treatment Plant, which will help meet the needs of area residents for the next half century. Our investment, expertise, and partnerships with community leaders like Mike Grigalonis of the CCEDC - Chester County Economic Development Council will #KeepLifeFlowing and allow Chester and Montgomery counties to continue to grow and thrive.

As we observe Imagine a Day Without Water Day, we are reminded of the essential role that water plays in our lives, and of how important it is to provide a reliable water supply to our 2.4 million customers across the Commonwealth. That is why we are committed to investing $525 to $625 million annually to maintain and improve our water and wastewater infrastructure. To that end, our $45 million investment to upgrade our E.H. Aldrich Treatment Plant in Washington County will support the plant’s 216,000 connections. This will safeguard the plant’s residential customers and strengthen the region’s robust industrial base. As Larry Butka, president of the Washington County Manufacturer's Association, points out, industrial machinery relies on a consistent, clean supply of water. By meeting this crucial need to sustain Pennsylvanian industry, #WeKeepLifeFlowing in our communities.

Removing and replacing lead service lines is a core component of our mission to provide dependable water services to the communities we serve across the Commonwealth. That is why we’re putting $4.9 million in PENNVEST loans and grants to use for replacing 350 lead lines in Allegheny County. Pennsylvania State Representative Arvind Venkat shares our commitment to making Pennsylvania lead-free. He recently shared his thoughts in TribLIVE on the importance of upgrading our aging water infrastructure as a means of protecting Pennsylvanians, particularly the Commonwealth’s children. We are committed to being a solutions provider for our 2.4 million customers across the Commonwealth. In Butler County, that commitment entails a planned $75 million investment into the former Butler Area Sewer Authority that will improve the system’s operations, infrastructure, and worker safety. The Butler Eagle recently covered this investment and the communities it serves, discussing the challenges the wastewater system faces and how our efforts will address these challenges, improve the system, and #KeepLifeFlowing for our Butler County customers. Reliable wastewater service depends on strong infrastructure, and strong infrastructure depends on access to affordable financing. In a letter to the editor in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pennsylvania American Water President Justin Ladner outlines why Congress should expand access to the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and pursue policies that provide equal access to state infrastructure funding for regulated utilities working to rehabilitate distressed water and wastewater systems. The need to invest in aging infrastructure isn't going away. Delaying critical improvements to aging systems only drives up costs, increases the risk of system failures and makes it harder to deliver the safe, clean, reliable and affordable service our customers depend on. Expanding access to these financing tools would help support the essential infrastructure investments, improve affordability for customers and strengthen communities across Pennsylvania.
