Big supermarkets and large catering businesses that sell or handle food are now required to separate food waste from general waste. These nation-leading recycling rules are designed to tackle the 1.7 million tonnes of food wasted in NSW each year, reduce emissions and recycle food waste into valuable products like compost for parks, agriculture and landscaping. The new rules apply to businesses sending around 4,000 litres of general waste to landfill each week, equivalent to 2 skip bins or more. To find out more and get your business sorted, search ‘food waste nsw’.
