€11 billion. That's the value of goods held up per day when the Ever Given blocked the Suez Canal for six days with major global consequences. Supply chain failure is not a financial inconvenience, it’s an operational, regulatory, and reputational crisis. A single missing component can halt an entire production line, a stockout can permanently shift customer loyalty, and an inability to deliver critical medication can trigger a public health crisis and a regulatory response. The organisations that experienced the most severe consequences from COVID-19, the Ever Given, and the Red Sea disruption had one thing in common: They had not invested in resilience before those events occurred. Global volatility is not a passing phase. The only variable is how prepared your organisation is when the next disruption arrives. NIRAS has published an executive brief setting out the strategic case for supply chain resilience investment, and the practical framework for acting on it. 🔗 Download it here: https://lnkd.in/eMjSe4Zi 🔗 Or read the full whitepaper, on which it is based: https://lnkd.in/eDHxpWdj

The final post in the series pushes back on the prevailing conference narrative that AI, digital twins, and predictive analytics are the answer to supply chain fragility. The argument is that technology investment consistently underdelivers when leadership culture, incentive structures, and decision-making processes haven't changed alongside it. The closing call to action is pointed: Before talking to a technology vendor, have the conversation with your leadership team. 🔗 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ebgQCsJe

Three numbers that should be on every supply chain leader's radar: ⛓️💥 €11 billion value of goods held up per day during the Ever Given Suez Canal blockage. ⛓️💥 50% drop in global foreign direct investment during COVID-19, as lean supply chains collapsed under demand shocks. ⛓️💥 283 ransomware attacks on transport and logistics firms recorded in 2025 alone. Physical disruption, financial shock, and cyber vulnerability. The risks to global supply chains are not converging on a single threat, they are multiplying across categories simultaneously. NIRAS has published a concise executive brief making the strategic case for supply chain resilience investment in process industries, including a practical four-pillar framework: Visibility, risk identification, stress-testing, and continuous measurement, grounded in the SCOR model. Designed for leaders who need the strategic picture without the operational detail. 🔗 Download it here: https://lnkd.in/ePTu47HJ 🔗 Or read the full whitepaper, on which it is based: https://lnkd.in/ePwPBrxb

Most supply chain disruptions aren't caused by unforeseeable events – they're caused by vulnerabilities no one had bothered to identify. This second post in the series makes the case for supply chain mapping down to Tier 2 and 3 suppliers, and walks through how to do it without specialist software. The key takeaway: Hidden single-source dependencies and geographic risk concentrations are often only discovered once you've actually looked. 🔗 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ebrgBssi

Organisations that have invested in supply chain technology without changing the way leadership thinks about supply chain have consistently found the same thing: The investment doesn't deliver the resilience it promised. Supply chain resilience requires executive sponsorship (at CEO or Chief Supply Chain Officer level) to sustain the organisational changes needed across procurement, finance, operations, HR, and sales. Without a mandate at the top, efficiency pressures will consistently override resilience investment every time. This is the central argument in the NIRAS executive brief on supply chain resilience: That resilience is a leadership decision first, and a technology question second. The brief sets out a practical, two-path framework: 🤝 One for large, complex global organisations 🤝 One accessible to any company regardless of size or budget Grounded in the SCOR model and applicable across life sciences and food and beverage manufacturing. The framework is the same for both paths, but the tools differ. The leadership commitment required is identical. If supply chain continuity is a board-level concern for your organisation, this brief is worth fifteen minutes of your time. 🔗 Download it here: https://lnkd.in/eHq-7wZx 🔗 Or read the full whitepaper, on which it is based: https://lnkd.in/eXE9mp3k
