The conversation around C-band is moving quickly from what is changing to what broadcasters should build next. And that discussion is very much happening in New York this week. As the industry prepares for the C-band transition, some of the most important questions are no longer about replacing a single delivery path: • How do broadcasters preserve the reliability and reach they have today? • What role should satellite, private IP and cloud each play? • How much control should operators retain over their future distribution architecture? • And how do we manage the operational complexity that comes with a more hybrid world? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀, 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. That is one of the discussions we are looking forward to at NAB Show New York, October 21–22. On Wednesday morning, Net Insight’s Larissa Görner-Meeus will also join broadcasters and technology leaders at Broadcasters’ Road to C-band Replacement, hosted by The Hive Group, to discuss what comes next as the industry starts making real architecture decisions. And throughout NAB Show New York, our team will be at Booth 544 discussing the broader shift toward more flexible, resilient and controllable live media infrastructure. If you are in New York, come and join the conversation. #BeyondCBand #CBand #NABShowNY #Broadcast #IPDistribution #MediaTechnology

The C-band transition is not only a technology decision. It is also a commercial one. As broadcasters plan how to replace or complement existing C-band distribution, the economics of the transition will have a major influence on the architectures they choose. The FCC’s Upper C-band transition framework includes reimbursement for reasonable transition costs and a Cost Catalog intended to guide what those costs may include. That makes an important question increasingly relevant: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 — 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲? Short-term transition costs matter. But so do the longer-term consequences of the commercial model: • Who owns and controls the infrastructure? • Which costs continue after the transition is complete? • How easily can the architecture evolve as requirements change? • Does today’s solution create flexibility — or another long-term dependency? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖-𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 — 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀. That is why transition economics and architecture strategy need to be considered together. #CBand #Broadcast #BroadcastInfrastructure #MediaTechnology #IPDistribution #FCC

For years, C-band has provided an extremely efficient and reliable foundation for large-scale broadcast distribution. That foundation is changing. And the challenge facing broadcasters is bigger than simply finding another way to move video from A to B. As the C-band transition moves forward, networks, station groups and service providers need to answer some fundamental questions: • How do we preserve the reach and reliability that satellite has provided at scale? • How do we avoid replacing one infrastructure dependency with another? • How do we balance resilience, economics and operational simplicity? • And how do we build an architecture that can evolve long after the immediate transition is complete? 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗖-𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝗳𝗼𝗿-𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗽. The market is moving toward a broader architecture discussion — involving different distribution paths, new resilience models, greater operational complexity and important choices around who ultimately controls the infrastructure. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁: 𝗖-𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘄. Over the coming weeks, we’ll look at some of the questions behind that decision — from resilience and hybrid distribution to open standards, operational visibility and long-term control. #CBand #Broadcast #IPDistribution #MediaTechnology #BroadcastInfrastructure
