Today, we were proud to host an engaging and thought-provoking breakfast roundtable alongside RES4Africa Foundation and EIB Global during Africa Energy Forum 2026. The discussion brought together policymakers, investors, financiers, development institutions and industry leaders to tackle one of the continent’s most important questions: how do we accelerate Africa’s energy transition while ensuring affordability, reliability and long-term economic growth? A key theme that emerged was that Africa’s energy challenge is no longer about a lack of ambition, technology or capital. Rather, it is about translating ambition into implementation at the scale and speed required to unlock sustainable growth and competitiveness across the continent. From strengthening transmission and distribution infrastructure to mobilising capital more effectively, creating investment certainty and building resilient energy systems, the conversation reinforced that collaboration will be critical to securing Africa’s energy future. We remain optimistic about the opportunities ahead. The technology is advancing, capital is increasingly available, and policy frameworks continue to evolve. The responsibility now lies with all stakeholders to work together to turn potential into progress. Thank you to Minister Ramokgopa, our distinguished speakers, partners and guests for contributing to a meaningful dialogue on the future of energy in Africa. #AfricanEnergyForum #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy

We were delighted to host and engage with our valued clients at our event last night, bringing together industry leaders, decision-makers, and partners who share a common vision for Africa’s growth and prosperity. The conversations were insightful, forward-looking, and centred on one of the most important drivers of economic development: energy. As the foundation of industrialisation, investment, job creation, and sustainable growth, energy remains at the heart of unlocking Africa’s full potential. Events like these provide an invaluable platform to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and collaborate on the opportunities and challenges shaping our continent’s future. We are proud to work alongside our clients and partners as we help finance, enable, and accelerate the projects and investments that will power economies, businesses, and communities across Africa. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such meaningful discussions. Together, we continue to build the partnerships that will drive progress and create lasting impact.

CICSA (Clean Captive Installations for Industrial Clients in Sub Saharan Africa) is a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosted initiative that operates at major industry gatherings such as the Africa Energy Forum (AEF). At these events, CICSA engages with key stakeholders, investors, and industry leaders, including the #NedbankCIB Power and Renewables Finance team, to explore strategies for moving commercial and industrial (C&I) renewable projects from concept to full investment readiness. This includes navigating regulatory frameworks, enabling grid tied captive photovoltaic (PV) systems in African markets, and leveraging tools such as credit guarantees, local-currency hedging, and liquidity support to attract private capital. Building on these discussions, Lulu Molemong, Associate Principal of Power and Renewables Finance at #NedbankCIB, will be a key speaker at AEF this year. She will share insights on what it takes to scale clean captive renewable solutions for the C&I sector across Africa – from the key enablers of bankability to the characteristics of projects, sponsors, and business models that give financiers the confidence to invest. Hosted by UNEP, the talk aims to unlock pragmatic, diversified energy solutions that support Africa's industrialised future. https://ow.ly/Mw8750ZcEok

Because revenue is typically earned in local currency while capital costs and debt are denominated in hard currency, foreign exchange and interest rate risks have a significant impact on the viability of African energy projects. Currency depreciation inflates debt service costs, strains cash flow, and weakens the debt service cover ratios, while rising global interest rates increase funding costs and drastically affect equity returns. To address these challenges, #NedbankCIB applies several strategies designed to improve project resilience and support sustainable financial performance throughout a project's life cycle. One key approach is integrating foreign exchange and interest rate risk management into deal structuring from the outset, rather than treating it as an after the fact exercise. By aligning funding currencies with revenue profiles and tailoring the debt structures, #NedbankCIB helps to stabilise and strengthen project resilience.
