Most digital solutions just put the paper form on a screen. The crew still has to remember every step and fill in the record afterward – and now log in and sync too. NAPA Checklist digitalizes the workflow, not just the form, so your SMS supports the crew instead of burdening them. Two questions decide most #windpropulsion investments: how much fuel will it save on our routes, and how will we prove it once the sails are up? In this video, Nuri ON, Senior Project Manager at NAPA, walks through the modelling behind those answers. The approach is a hybrid performance model - a physics-based ship model combined with operational data. Because the physics does the heavy lifting, stakeholders can trace how a prediction was reached, not just the figure it produced. NAPA works with shipowners at all three stages: ✅ simulating expected savings before installation ✅ optimizing routes and speed once the sails are in use ✅ validating real performance afterwards against the modelled case without sails How we work with wind-assisted ships: https://lnkd.in/eXUpUv_p #WindPropulsion #ShipPerformance #MaritimeDigitalization #ShipOperations #MaritimeDecarbonization #MaritimeCompliance

Without a wind-assist device, the most favorable wind for a ship is a tailwind. Once the device is installed, that changes. Most wind-assist devices, such as rotor sails, wing sails and suction sails, deliver the most thrust when the wind comes from the side, not from directly behind. So can conventional weather routing alone fully support a wind-assisted ship? The answer is: not fully. A route planned around the old idea of "good weather" can miss the conditions where the sails deliver the most. In this clip, Nuri ON, Senior Project Manager at NAPA, explains what routing has to account for after installation. First, understand how the new installation changes the ship's performance. Then find the route that gets the most out of the wind-assist device. The investment case is made before installation, and the results are verified afterwards. The fuel savings themselves are earned voyage by voyage, in how the ship is routed. 👉🏻NAPA's work with wind-assisted ships: https://lnkd.in/eXUpUv_p #WindPropulsion #WAPS #WeatherRouting

Two ships can carry the same rotor sail and see very different savings. Much of the difference comes down to the routes they trade and the weather they meet along them. That makes the business case for wind-assisted propulsion harder to pin down than a spec sheet suggests - and it's the question stakeholders ask first. In this clip, Nuri ON, Senior Project Manager at NAPA, explains why simulation comes before the capex decision, and what it can tell you about a specific ship on a specific trade. Don't guess savings. Measure them - before, during and after installation. 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/eXUpUv_p #WindPropulsion #WAPS

A WAPS retrofit doesn't pay off the day the sails go up. It pays off voyage by voyage, if the planning lets it. The route looks right. The numbers look fine. And a share of the WAPS savings never shows up. That's the quiet failure mode on wind-assisted ships, and it isn't the hardware. Retrofits are delivering 5–20% fuel savings in real operation. The planning software just hasn't caught up. Most weather routing tools still treat wind as resistance to route around. Where wind-assist is included at all, it's a thrust bonus added on top, not a model of how wind angle, engine load and sea state interact on a specific hull. It's a commercial problem too. Under time charter, owners pay for the installation and charterers collect the savings. Without voyage-level data that separates what the sails delivered from what the weather delivered, there's nothing to negotiate from. Mikko Vartiainen, Wind Assisted Vessel Optimization Lead at NAPA, explains what voyage planning has to do to earn the full return on a WAPS retrofit. 👉🏻 Read more on the blog.
