There are usually only a handful of eMSPs in your market that matter for utilization. When drivers open those apps, how do you get them to select your site instead of your competition’s site across the street? It is a challenging question to get right. The days of publishing one price to all are nearing their end. CPOs are only getting more sophisticated in their pricing. With Bilateral Roaming Agreements, we give Monta-powered operators the ability to tailor pricing per eMSP. We have direct OCPI integrations with 60+ networks where this is possible. Set it up in just a few minutes - as I show - and the discounted price will be immediately shared with the roaming counterparty. It is just one part of our growing roaming toolkit that CPOs are using to drive inbound roaming traffic. You can go the route that some in DACH are going and share more expensive pricing with eMSPs 😅 or you can give the best deal to the eMSPs that really matter. And watch your utilization increase.

As the battle for drivers’ charging kWh shifts from site location to driver loyalty, CPOs need the commercial tools to lock in loyalty with great deals for all types of drivers. Monta's fastest growing operators deploy pretty sophisticated subscription plans, tailored to different groups of drivers and their behaviors. Ad hoc drivers vs. taxi fleets vs. ride share vs. corporate fleets behave differently and require different types of plans. Now we make it really easy for a CPO to put their subscription plan right in front of a driver and sign-up is just a couple of clicks away. I walk through how in the latest Feature Focus.

We’ve seen this play out before. ERP (operations). CRM (sales). CMS (web). HR/payroll (admin). BI (reporting). Helpdesk (support). Everyone tried to build their own. Eventually, they didn’t. Charge Point Management Systems (CPMS) will follow the same path. 🛠 Phase 1: Build it yourself “Let’s build it—it’s not that complex.” It’s fun, you are creative, launching and realizing the mountain of work which is in front of you, and now your team is fixing bugs and scaling. 🤔 Phase 2: Hybrid/services “Let’s stitch together best-of-breed services—we’ll have full control and stay competitive.” On paper? Sounds agile. In practice? You’ve got 12 services with proprietary APIs, overlapping roles, and zero shared roadmap—some from small companies without SLAs. One breaks, the others follow. Your team becomes the glue—spending all day fixing what was “supposed to just work.” You’re not scaling—you’re babysitting a fragile setup. Integration becomes the product. And differentiation takes a back seat. 🥹 Phase 3: Platform with heavy customization “Let’s choose a solid platform and customize it to fit us perfectly.” Maybe we hire expensive consultants, customize it with code-injections, custom models and plugins. You’re stuck on an outdated version because the custom bits break every time you update. You are more vendor-locked than ever. Maybe the consultant who “configured it” for you is the only one who understands it. And you’ve spent nearly the same as building from scratch—with none of the flexibility. 🤝 Phase 4: Platform-native with clean extensions “Let’s align the business to the platform—minimal customization, just a few bespoke services.” You regain momentum. Your team focuses on what actually drives value. Here’s the thing: If you’re not a tech company—and not building your own vertical integrated product—think hard before going custom. Enterprise architects will take you here right away. Software architects will start you in phase 1-2. What advice are you looking for? 🎓 Summary I've been through all the phases. I’ve built more custom platforms than I can count—many of which could’ve just been a WordPress / Hubspot instance. For years, I went all in on hybrid/services and stitched together hundreds of solutions; customers loved it. When I visited them 1-2 years ago nothing new was built. The hard part isn’t building it. It’s keeping it running, relevant, and high-performing for 5-10 years. 1,000 hours to build = 500 hours/year to maintain After one team cycle, new team wants to rebuild it So ask yourself as a CPO: If you don’t have a 100-person software team—what’s your real edge? Is it: ⚡ Growing charging availability 🚘 Commissioning sites quicker / higher quality 📉 Driving down cost per kWh 📈 Increasing utilization and uptime 💳 Simplifying payments and customer experience 🤝 Building strong operator, site, and fleet partnerships Or is it… building a CPMS?

We built the hard part underneath, so you can build the business on top. Connecting chargers, running them and billing drivers was chapter one. What a CPO operates now is four things at once: a distributed network, an energy asset, a financial network, and an increasingly autonomous system. Join Casper Rasmussen, CEO and co-founder, and Kevin Spangenberg, Senior Demand Strategy Lead, for our webinar The easy part is over: what it takes to run the next generation of charging networks.
