Beauty as the beneficiary? There's growing evidence that the beauty and personal care category will be one of the main winners as GLP-1 meds build across society. L'Oréal’s CEO has just described GLP-1s as 'a very important phenomenon for us', pointing to their impact on beauty consumption... and skincare in particular. This adds weight to emerging shopper data. Yes, GLP-1 households may already be relatively high spenders, but Circana has already reported that beauty purchasing strengthens after treatment begins. Intel from MMR Research and Huxly by MMR reveals some of the reasons for this uplift - including support for changing bodies, consumers investing to make the most of the change, plus, with GLP-1s disrupting pleasure derived from food and beverage categories, there is evidence of consumers turning to small 'pick-me-up' beauty buys to compensate. The opportunity is to understand how people’s needs evolve through weight loss and maintenance, and where products can make a meaningful difference. Global consumer and sensory research for the world’s leading brands.

One thing I've learned through years of innovation research is that consumers don't experience products in separate parts. They experience the whole journey. The reality is that even well-considered changes can influence consumer perception in unexpected ways. Whether driven by sustainability goals, regulatory requirements, supply constraints or evolving consumer needs, changes often create ripple effects across the broader product experience. In this interview with Innovation Unpacked, I share my thoughts on why understanding the full product experience matters, where AI can create meaningful value in research, and how Sensory Bot™ helps uncover the connections that traditional approaches can struggle to see. If you're interested in consumer understanding, sensory science, innovation, or the future of AI-powered research, Id love to hear your thoughts. A pleasure to be part of the panel at the MRS and Royal Statistical Society Beyond the Hype event today. Among the many exciting applications, my presentation focused on the less glamorous but important topic of synthetic boosting. At MMR Research, we have explored this extensively through internal trials and client partnerships. The underlying message of my 20 minute talk is summarised by this 2 minute video: there is more uncertainty around the results obtained from small samples and boosting doesn't remove that uncertainty - a sample of n=50, remains n=50! Massive shout out to Nisarg M. for working wonders with mediocre inputs!
