For much of the past decade, marketing has focused on visibility. Organisations have invested heavily in digital advertising, lead generation, search marketing and campaign optimisation, supported by increasingly sophisticated platforms capable of measuring almost every interaction. Yet despite having access to more technology, data and marketing tools than ever before, many organisations are finding it increasingly difficult to stand out. As customers are exposed to more choice and more information than ever before, ‘brand’ is quietly returning to the strategic agenda. The organisations that are succeeding are often those that have built a distinctive identity, a clear position in the market and a brand that customers remember when it matters most. In our latest article, we explore why leading organisations are investing in brand-building again and what this means for SMEs competing in an increasingly crowded marketplace. #BrandStrategy #BusinessGrowth #MarketingStrategy #SMEs #CustomerExperience

Many businesses are noticing a similar trend. Enquiries are arriving, conversations are taking place and opportunities are emerging, yet decisions often seem to take longer than they once did. Sales cycles are stretching, proposals remain under consideration for extended periods and customers are spending more time evaluating their options before committing. While economic conditions undoubtedly play a role, research suggests a broader shift in buyer behaviour is also underway. Customers now have access to more information, more opinions and more alternatives than ever before. While this can support better decision-making, it can also make decisions harder, creating a growing gap between customer interest and customer action. In our latest article, The Great Decision Delay, we explore what the research tells us about changing buyer behaviour, why decision-making has become more complex and what businesses can do to help customers move forward with confidence. With access to unprecedented amounts of information, today's customers are researching more thoroughly, comparing more options and seeking greater reassurance before committing. The result is a more considered, but often slower, decision-making process. Have you noticed decision-making timelines changing within your organisation or industry? #BusinessGrowth #CustomerExperience #MarketingStrategy #DigitalMarketing #SMEGrowth

AI is making it easier than ever for businesses to create professional content, maintain a consistent presence and communicate expertise at scale. But when every organisation has access to the same powerful tools, the factors that build genuine differentiation begin to change. Increasingly, trust is becoming one of the most valuable competitive advantages a business can have. Customers are looking beyond polished marketing to reviews, referrals, reputation, values and the experiences of others. They want confidence that the organisation behind the message will genuinely deliver on its promises. AI can help businesses communicate more efficiently and effectively. But credibility, strong relationships and positive customer experiences still need to be earned. As technology continues to evolve, that distinction may become more important than ever. #AIForBusiness #BrandTrust #CustomerExperience #BrandStrategy #DigitalTransformation #MarketingStrategy #BusinessReputation

Australian businesses are constantly being told that we need to become more productive. But what does that actually mean when you’re running an SME and already working incredibly hard? The latest Business NSW Business Conditions Survey shows just how much pressure businesses are under, with rising costs, business owners cutting their own incomes and some dipping into personal savings to keep their businesses running. Against that backdrop, asking people simply to work harder clearly isn’t the answer. In our latest article, we look at some of the ways SMEs can create more value from the resources they already have, including using AI to increase capability, getting more value from existing customers, strengthening brand and differentiation, improving the return from marketing investment and creating a culture that supports better ways of working. #SMEProductivity #BusinessProductivity #AIForBusiness #SMEMarketing #BusinessGrowth #DigitalTransformation #AustralianBusiness #DigitalMarketing #MarketingAgency

Does humour work in advertising and, perhaps more importantly, when should a brand use it and when should it not? Humour can be incredibly effective at attracting attention and making advertising memorable, which can be particularly valuable for SMEs that don't have enormous budgets to achieve reach and repetition. But there is an important difference between people remembering an ad and remembering the brand behind it. Years ago, we were presented with a campaign featuring Dame Edna Everage. It was very funny and would have undoubtedly have attracted attention, but we ultimately decided that Dame Edna risked overshadowing our brand and the message we wanted people to remember. In our latest article, we look at what makes humour effective in advertising, why brands such as Aldi use it so well and some of the questions SMEs should consider before introducing humour into their own marketing. #Advertising #BrandStrategy #CreativeStrategy #MarketingStrategy #AdvertisingEffectiveness #BrandBuilding #HumourInAdvertising #DigitalMarketing #MarketingAgency

‘Where did you hear about us?’ It’s a question we’ve always asked new clients when they first contact Milestone-Belanova. For years, the answers were fairly predictable: Google, a referral, our work, LinkedIn or Meta. Increasingly, we’re hearing something different: ‘ChatGPT (or another LLM) recommended you.’ It’s a very real demonstration of how search has changed and why we’re helping our clients take advantage of the opportunities AI search is creating right now. Google remains enormously important and traditional SEO isn’t going anywhere. Businesses still need technically sound websites, strong content, authority and the fundamentals that help search engines understand and rank them. But ranking on Google is no longer the whole story. Someone can now ask an AI platform, ‘Which digital agencies understand franchise marketing?’ and instead of receiving a page of links to investigate, they may receive a shortlist, comparison or recommendation. This shift has given rise to Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), which focuses on how businesses are understood, evaluated and surfaced within AI-driven search. GEO isn’t about adding a few ‘AI-friendly’ keywords to your website. It’s about ensuring there is clear, credible evidence online of what your business actually knows and does. An accounting firm, for example, might say, ‘We help businesses grow’. But if that’s virtually all it says about growth, while a competitor has useful content demonstrating expertise in scaling, cash flow, funding, forecasting and the financial challenges of expansion, which business provides stronger evidence of genuine expertise? That’s why we now look beyond traditional SEO when considering our clients’ digital visibility. We assess how clearly their expertise and positioning are demonstrated and reinforced across their digital presence, and how effectively that information can be understood by both traditional search engines and AI platforms. And importantly, we look at what AI platforms are actually saying about the business when prospective customers ask the kinds of questions that could lead to a recommendation. This isn’t SEO versus GEO. SEO remains the foundation, but search is evolving beyond ranking webpages for keywords towards understanding businesses, expertise, authority and relevance. If you’d like to understand what ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI-driven search experiences currently understand about your business - and where the opportunities may be to strengthen your visibility - talk to our team on 1300 788 572. #GenerativeEngineOptimisation #AIsearch #SEO #GEO #DigitalMarketing #SearchMarketing #AI #DigitalStrategy #MarketingAgency
