For software companies whose new customers bring their data. Try it on one customer’s export: a spreadsheet or a database dump, plus your target format. You get the data mapped and the validation report, old against new. Free test run, just your email, no call needed.

For software companies whose new customers bring their data. Five steps, the same for every customer: data in, mapped, test run, checked old against new, signed off. With full service we run them for you. Your customer sees where they stand, and every one goes live the same way.

For software companies whose new customers bring their data. Every new client arrives with data. Then you wait on an export, rebuild the field mapping by hand, find two columns came back empty and explain the new go-live date. None of that is in the project plan. The plan has one line: "data import". Eight principles to turn that line into infrastructure you build once. Built on 10,000+ client onboardings and data migrations.

True story: while studying in Vienna for half a year, my internet connection at home was incredibly bad. (Sorry again to all colleagues who had to sit through video calls with me at times, lots of connection losses...) A low point was when I tried downloading a rather large file that was part of a migration planned for the next day. For hours, the download just wouldn’t complete. A little time pressure and my girlfriend declaring me insane later, I found myself putting on running shoes to jog to the university campus at night to get that file downloaded on the uni network. Last week, we built a feature so nobody needs to run (pun intended) into that issue again.

Many software companies still treat 🧭 Client Onboarding, 📦 Data migration and ⚙️ Configuration as separate processes. Sometimes, configuration is even out of scope. That’s a costly mistake. Because great onboarding isn’t just setup work — it’s a competitive advantage. When client onboarding, data migration and configuration are designed as one connected flow: ✅ Users feel at home on day one ✅ Engagement starts immediately ✅ Time-to-value drops significantly And the business impact is real: ✔ Higher close rates (stronger sales argument) ✔ Faster adoption ✔ Lower churn months later Client onboarding done right isn’t an operational task. It’s a growth lever. Onboarding deserves to be treated as a strategic capability, not just a delivery phase.

I just mapped out the 10 biggest risks that kill client onboarding. After working with software companies on their onboarding processes, I kept seeing the same patterns. So I broke them down into three categories: → 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Process breakdowns, accountability gaps, timeline slippage → 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Quality issues, migration effort, external dependencies → 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 & 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: Adoption barriers, training gaps, reactive firefighting Here's what's interesting: Most software executives know these risks exist. But they treat them as inevitable friction rather than solvable problems. The companies winning at onboarding? They've systematically addressed each of these risks before they become emergencies. 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧? The link to download the complete document is in the comments below. Or just comment "ONBOARDING" and I'll send it to you directly. What's your experience? Which of these three areas causes the most pain in your onboarding process?
