Waitaki Power Station is absolutely iconic ❤️ It's been delivering for New Zealand for close to a century now, and we're about to give it a new lease of life. We're going to be investing between $440m and $510m over the next decade to upgrade Waitaki, replacing all seven turbines and generators, along with the station's 21 headgates. When complete, Waitaki's capacity will increase from 105MW to 120MW, while improving its reliability, resilience and long-term performance. “Waitaki Power Station is an important part of our country’s social and energy history," says Chief Executive Mike Roan. For us, looking after the environment goes hand in hand with generating renewable electricity 🌳 That's why we're helping restore rivers, wetlands and forests in the places where we operate. One example is Project River Recovery, which helps restore wetlands, waterways and native habitats across the South Island. It's not quick. Restoring ecosystems can take years, sometimes decades, but over time it helps bring back native plants and wildlife to landscapes that have been heavily modified. Many of those efforts are focused on the rivers that power our hydro stations. Because we rely on these rivers, we have a responsibility to help care for them. We're also investing in forests through our Forever Forests programme. Alongside storing carbon, these forests create habitat for native species and contribute to healthier, more resilient ecosystems over the long term. Biodiversity isn't something separate from our business. It's part of the responsibility that comes with generating renewable electricity from New Zealand's incredible wind, water and sun.
