I've sat in a lot of town halls. As a CEO, I've run them. I've watched other leaders run them. I've been in the audience for them. And I keep noticing the same thing. Everyone claps at the end. The leader walks off feeling like something happened. And then nothing changes. Not because the message was wrong. Not because people disagreed. But because the format was never designed to create alignment: it was designed to create the feeling of it. There's a difference. And it's an expensive one. The organisations I admire most have stopped treating communication as something that flows in one direction. They've built moments where the org has to respond, not just receive. Where silence isn't the default. That's when you find out what people actually think. Are your town halls creating alignment or just the appearance of it?

AI has now fully entered the higher education space. And there seems to be no turning back. Do we need students to misspell in order for us to know that it's real? Not really.
