What happens when the infrastructure we build today reaches the end of its lifecycle? When we asked Kelly Adels Hess from CompuCycle Inc. about the biggest challenge facing data centers over the next five years, she highlighted something that often receives less attention: decommissioning. Her perspective focuses on responsibly managing IT assets, data, compliance and security when equipment reaches the end of its useful life. For us, it also raises a broader question: are we designing data centers with their full lifecycle in mind? Data center infrastructure will change over time. Equipment will be replaced. Cables will be added, removed and rerouted. Capacity requirements will evolve. That makes future change an important consideration from the very beginning - including how critical cable and pipe penetrations are designed. Because good infrastructure shouldn't only work on day one. It should be ready for what comes next. #DataCenters #DataCenterInfrastructure #CriticalInfrastructure #Lifecycle #MCTBrattberg #PuttingSafetyFirst

A certified solution is only part of the equation. In critical infrastructure, performance depends on more than choosing a certified cable or pipe transit. The installation also needs to reflect the tested and approved solution. In this edition of MCT Insights, we look at the difference between a certified transit and a correctly installed one - and why that distinction matters. Because when a penetration forms part of a fire-rated or otherwise critical barrier, the details of the installation are not just details.
