How can you tell if a stream restoration is actually working? The answer isn't always obvious, but there are a few signs our experts look for. 💧🍃 For Parks + Recreation Month, we're visiting Dorton Park, where McAdams Practice Lead Rebecca Stubbs, PE helped restore a struggling section of Afton Run. Funded by a Parks Bond, the project restored nearly 1,700 linear feet of stream, creating a healthier, more stable stream while enhancing the park experience for everyone who visits. Rebecca points to one of those signs: sediment collecting on the bankfull bench. While it may not look exciting at first glance, it's actually evidence that the stream is slowing water, reducing erosion, and functioning as it was designed to. This year's Parks and Recreation Month theme, The Power of Well Being, reminds us that healthy parks depend on healthy natural systems. Every stream restored helps create places where people can connect with nature, recharge, and enjoy the outdoors for years to come. #ParksandRecMonth2026 #ThePowerOf #ThePowerOfWellBeing #ThePowerOf

Surveyors are the first boots on the ground for nearly every project. 👷🥾 They set the control points that guide construction, locate property boundaries, and make sure every measurement is exactly where it needs to be. Even a small shift can create big problems later. 📐 From busy roadways to dense woods, survey crews work through changing conditions to capture the data that keeps projects moving forward. 📊 This Surveyor Appreciation Day, we’re celebrating the professionals who lay the groundwork for everything that comes next. Their precision keeps projects on track from day one. 📏 Happy National Surveyors Week to the crews who help make it all possible! ✨ #landsurveying #mcadams #surveytheworld #adayinthelife

Leadership in action means connecting people, places, and opportunity. 🚶 🏙️ Designed to bring Durham closer together, the Durham Rail Trail reimagines former rail corridors as an accessible, community‑first public space linking North Durham to the Ellerbe Creek Trail. Through thoughtful, people‑centered design, the project enhances mobility, supports equitable access to outdoor spaces, and celebrates the character of the city. As we recognize Landscape Architecture Month, the Durham Rail Trail reflects how landscape architects lead by shaping infrastructure that strengthens neighborhoods, improves connectivity, and creates safer, more inviting routes for everyone, one trail at a time.
