Never have Victorian councils faced such uncertainty. That’s why we’ve launched our Local Government Risk Summit – a one-day conference designed to help councils tackle the most pressing risks facing the sector: - financial sustainability - planning reforms and their practical impact - workforce and service delivery challenges - governance, trust and transparency pressures On November 19, we’ll welcome officers from across the sector to a full-day deep-dive into these challenges. With four concurrent training streams dedicated to each risk, and with five practical, legally-informed sessions in each stream, officers will be empowered to understand, manage and overcome these challenges – leading to: - increased officer confidence - better-informed teams - reduced exposure to legal risk For more information, and to secure your seat, visit: https://loom.ly/6hWolCk #LocalGovernment #RiskSummit #LGRiskSummit #Maddocks #VicLocalGovernment #VictorianCouncils Kate Oliver, Briana Eastaugh, Lindy Richardson, Catherine Dunlop, Meredith Kennedy, Melanie Olynyk, Clare Batrouney, Chris Cantor, Billy Gialamas

When it comes to AI in government, one trend is becoming clear: agencies are moving quickly to implement AI while navigating their unique responsibilities. In this video, Partner Gavan Mackenzie highlights key trends shaping the sector: “Government is focused on implementing AI initiatives quickly to drive innovation and deliver benefits to the public. At the same time, there’s a strong emphasis on sovereign capability and data residency, particularly for sensitive projects. We’re also seeing a shift from pilots to targeted, use case-driven deployment, with growing scrutiny around privacy, security and how data is used. AI is increasingly being embedded into existing systems, aligned with whole-of-government frameworks, ethics principles and international standards. And when procuring AI-enabled services, agencies are seeking stronger contractual protections, clearer risk allocation, transparency and vendor accountability.” In practice, this means agencies need to take a pragmatic and balanced approach – accelerating innovation while ensuring appropriate safeguards, governance and alignment with regulatory expectations.
