One of our community members told us that although she loved our online Certificate Programs, joining live classes at 2 a.m. was impossible. How do you make your training programs accessible to more people, in any time zone, without adding more live sessions to the calendar? This motivated us to turn some of Hacking HR's 12-week live Certificate Programs into five- to six-hour On-Demand Certificate Programs. Our live programs are still running. But with a global community of more than one million followers, we wanted to give people more ways to learn, regardless of their schedules. The challenge was to keep high-quality learning and enable skill-building once the live sessions, facilitators, and faculty are gone. This is what I learned through the process: 1. Decide what belongs. Not every live program is a good candidate for on-demand. Evaluate learning objectives, the content, and what participants would need to learn independently before choosing which programs to convert. 2. Redesign the experience. So you can't just upload videos. You don't have facilitators, faculty or experts, discussions, or group activities. You must rethink the experience and put yourself in the learner's shoes. We reorganized materials, wrote new scripts, produced AI-avatar videos, and embedded assessments and short surveys across the courses. 3. Create a repeatable process: We used LearnWorlds to duplicate course sections and reuse content across programs through a centralized library. It saved us a lot of time. Our mindset became repurpose, reuse, recycle. 4. Test everything. The devil is in the details! We asked a good number of eyeballs to test all the courses. And we caught problems we'd missed. We double-checked navigation, video progression, assessments, captions, and certificates before launch. 5. Support people who get stuck. We monitored learner progress and followed up with students who got stuck. Their feedback helped us understand what was getting in their way. 6. Use data to improve as you go. LearnWorlds allowed us to track enrollment, progress, assessment scores, completion rates, and time spent on each activity. Our findings: the programs had to be shorter and much more focused. We condensed the content. We created five- to six-hour learning experiences. We didn't sacrifice value. One of my biggest takeaways? Launching an on-demand program is the start, not the finish. People will show you what's working and what's not. The right platform helped us stay organized, scale delivery, and improve along the way. Our case study with LearnWorlds covers the decisions behind that work, including what we changed after looking at the data: https://lnkd.in/eGiSmPvH

What if your ebook could teach, instead of just being read? That's one of the questions Yan Weng, Simon Strehler and I have been exploring while building AI-powered interactive learning objects at LearnWorlds. A good instructor doesn't spend the entire time explaining things to learners. They ask questions, challenge assumptions, present problems, and encourage learners to think for themselves. We wanted to bring some of that experience into our digital learning materials. Instead of learners passively reading an ebook, we wanted them to have opportunities to apply what they've learned, analyse situations, reflect on their reasoning, and even create something new. But designing these experiences with AI brought up some interesting challenges. How do you teach AI to behave like a good instructor? For example, when a learner gives an incorrect answer, the easiest thing for AI to do is provide the correct one. But a good instructor might ask a follow-up question, offer a hint, or encourage the learner to reconsider their reasoning. That's why we've been working on instructional rules that guide how AI creates a learning experience, including: - What cognitive skills should the learner practise? - How much guidance should they receive? - When should AI provide feedback, and when should it encourage further thinking? - How do we make sure the activity supports the intended learning objective? One of my favourite parts of working on this project has been seeing how much instructional design thinking goes into an interaction that might only take a learner a couple of minutes to complete. And how much testing it takes to make that interaction work as intended. This is just one of the features we’re releasing to help authors build activities that get learners thinking, rather than consuming. Want to see what we’ve built? Let me be a people nerd for a moment. For the past 8 weeks I've been having conversations with customers in our community, learning their learning businesses, what they’re looking for, what’s on their wish list. And let’s just say, some of the things you’ve been asking for are actually coming true sooner than you think. I'm going to do a horrible job of describing what that is, so you're going to have to come to the event to see it… But this is the most wonderful place to be as a customer facing professional. Letting people know just how much we are listening and just how much we're building with them in mind. We're revealing all to the world on the 13th October, and I'm looking forward to seeing what people say! If this has got your interest piqued, sign up for it here: https://lnkd.in/ett9izJH

I’ve spent much of my career thinking about how to make online courses better. Lately, I’ve been wondering whether the course is just too small a boundary entirely. Real learning continues after someone completes a course. People apply what they know, forget parts of it, encounter new problems. Their goals change and they return with new context. The platform behind the learning should be able to continue that relationship too. This is the thinking behind our direction for LearnWorlds: a Living Learning System. We’re building a system that can participate more actively in creating, delivering, and continuing learning, while keeping educators and their expertise in control. On October 13, George Palaigeorgiou and I will share this vision and preview the capabilities we’re working on. If you design, teach, or run learning programs and businesses, join us and tell us what you think about it. https://lnkd.in/eaUwnpNx
