Every day, legal professionals are expected to make decisions that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. Should we buy this AI platform? Can we trust this output? How do we supervise AI without creating unnecessary risk? Where should AI be used...and where should it never be used? The problem is that most lawyers were never taught how AI actually works. Yet they're expected to lead its adoption. That's like asking someone to buy an airplane after only watching the commercial. You don't need to become a prompt engineer or a computer scientist. You do need enough AI literacy to ask the right questions, challenge vendor claims, recognize hallucinations, understand the risks, and make decisions with confidence. That's why Maryam Salehijam, PhD is launching her course! In this practical 30-minute session, I'll introduce the Legally AI™ Framework, a practical approach to evaluating AI tools, identifying high-value use cases, and understanding where human judgment remains irreplaceable. We'll cover: ✅ How AI actually works (and where it breaks) ✅ How to separate vendor hype from reality ✅ The legal AI use cases delivering measurable ROI today ✅ The ethical, professional, and business risks every legal professional should understand AI literacy is becoming as fundamental to legal practice as understanding privilege, ethics, or legal research. If you're a lawyer, legal operations professional, patent practitioner, paralegal, or legal leader, I'd love to have you join us.

Will the proposed PTAB rules actually become final? On the latest Clause 8 Podcast episode, host Eli Mazour put that question to Coke Morgan Stewart, former Acting Director of the USPTO. Her estimate: "I would say 60/40, the rule's going to happen." And why it isn't the Office's call alone. People think the Director "has like a magic wand with respect to IP policy," she says. "It is definitely not true." A consequential rule moves from the USPTO to the Department of Commerce, out for public comment, and through OMB's regulatory office, OIRA, where outside parties and other parts of government weigh in. "At that point, it's almost out of PTO's hands." The full conversation goes well beyond PTAB policy: how she went from English literature to the USPTO Solicitor's Office, what day one as Acting Director looked like, and her work now as President and CEO of the Council for Innovation Promotion (C4IP). Junior is proud to sponsor Clause 8 this season. Full episode in the first comment 👇 #PTAB #PatentLaw #USPTO #IntellectualProperty #Clause8

Free CLE: California just made “check your AI’s work” the law. ⚖️ On Sept. 30, Governor Newsom signed SB 574. Starting Jan. 1, 2027, a California lawyer who uses generative AI must: → Keep confidential and personal data out of AI systems that aren’t access-restricted → Verify AI output — including every case and statutory citation → Disclose generative-AI use to the court → Never delegate the practice of law to a model And every citation in a California court filing must be personally verified by the responsible attorney — AI-generated or not. Our CEO Yuri Eliezer breaks it down in the first five minutes of our free IPWatchdog CLE this Thursday, Oct. 15 at 12 PM ET — along with the 3 must-dos that keep any firm’s AI use compliant, wherever it practices. Then the live CLE: 🔎 Patent citation monitoring — Robert Wiesenberg, Chief IP Counsel at Bluefin Payment Systems, shows how USPTO examiner citations surface the companies already building in your space. 📥 Disclosure management — Nicole Morris of Emory Law shows how her clinic handles AI-drafted invention disclosures, and what she refuses to let a model decide. Moderated by Gene Quinn of IPWatchdog, Inc. CLE credit requested.
