JBWere is committed to working alongside clients and sector partners to encourage more and better giving in Australia. It is with this goal in mind that our experts, Shamal Dass & John McLeod, have made a submission to Treasury’s Giving Fund Reforms: distribution rate and smoothing consultation paper. This follows JBWere’s submissions in May 2023 and February 2024 to the Productivity Commission’s Philanthropy Inquiry. As a trusted adviser and partner to many philanthropists and for-purpose organisations that rely on philanthropy, we believe it is important to share our views based on the perspectives of our clients, partners, and collaborators in the sector; combined with the experience and expertise of the members of our Philanthropic Services team. Our submission is a result of extensive research, conversations with our network, and decades of experience. We look forward to engaging proactively with leaders across government, the for-purpose sector and our private clients on this matter and all others that support a more philanthropic Australia. In case you missed it, JBWere’s Peter Roach recently spoke with journalist Duncan Hughes for Investor Strategy News about the hidden dangers confronting family offices. He warned that the biggest threats to family office wealth aren’t market swings, but the risk of emotional biases leading to over-concentration. He talked about the Shakespearean issues which can sometimes detract from good decision making. His guidance: independent oversight, strong investment committees and governance that supports clear, long-term decision-making, and measures success against the family’s shared purpose. As JBWere’s Kim Venter notes, good governance creates a framework for clear communication and transparency. It may not eliminate conflict, but it provides a fair process to discuss and decide on key issues. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gtVVa4zW

To mark World Ovarian Cancer Day, JBWere was proud to host a special morning tea with staff and representatives from Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA). A standout afternoon in Melbourne for our JBWere Investment Update. Recently, we brought our Investment Update series to Melbourne, convening clients for a timely discussion on the evolving investment landscape and the themes shaping markets today. Led by Alexandra Campbell Chief Investment Officer, JBWere and NAB Private Wealth the session brought together a strong panel of investment specialists to share their perspectives: • Jonathan Koh Portfolio Manager, Greencape Capital • Stewart Upson Managing Partner & President, Brookfield • Alex Ovchar Managing Director, Partner & Client Group, Pacific Equity Partners • Matthew Lorback Partner, ATLAS Infrastructure The session offered insights across equities and infrastructure, focusing on how they are approaching market uncertainty, deploying capital and identifying opportunities where long-term value is emerging. A wonderful event and an excellent reflection of the calibre of conversation and connection across our JBWere community. Thank you to everyone involved.
