🚨 FREE CPD-CERTIFIED CHUTE TRAINING: BUILDING SAFETY FOCUS 🚨 The latest organisations to benefit from our refuse chute specific, CPD certified training are Islington Council and Podium Surveying LLP. We were pleased to be invited to Islington Council’s Upper Street offices, where our chute compliance experts led by Charles White delivered a focused session on the regulations, legislation, and technical standards relevant to refuse chute systems, particularly in the context of Building Safety Regulator (BSR) submissions and planned upgrades. 🎥 Take a moment to hear what attendees had to say about the value of the session and how this niche guidance could help your organisation make informed, compliant decisions. 📩 If your team could benefit from similar expert-led training and regulatory insight, get in touch, we’re here to support better safety outcomes in HRBs. #FireSafety #RefuseChutes #HRBs #BSR #BuildingSafetyRegulator #CPDTraining #HydroChute

Did you know that free, CPD-certified training and guidance is available for your organisation — specifically on refuse chute systems? Refuse chutes play a vital role in the safe and efficient disposal of waste in many High-Risk Buildings (HRBs), yet they’re often overlooked in the context of building-wide fire strategies. 🔍 Have these systems been properly assessed and integrated into your organisation’s fire safety plan? 💡 Would you benefit from expert, technical advice in this highly specialised area of fire compliance? Here’s a short clip from Charles White’s presentation at the 8th International Tall Buildings Fire Safety Conference (London, Dec 2024) where the subject of training specific to chutes was discussed. #FireSafety #TallBuildings #BuildingRegulations #CPDTraining #HRB #RefuseChutes #HydroChute

Combustion Loading 🔥 A Hidden Hazard in Refuse Chutes How do we tackle the build-up of solidified fats, oils, and proteins in refuse chutes caused by food waste? These residues aren’t just gross 🤮 they harbour bacteria, cause foul odours, and attract flies and pests. But there’s another serious concern: fire risk. In the right conditions, these organic deposits can become a potential fuel source in the event of a chute or bin fire. Luckily, the solution is straightforward. In this short Q&A clip, Riley Smith explains our proven cleaning method and highlights why regularly scheduled refuse chute cleaning is essential, not just for hygiene, but as a critical part of fire safety and chute maintenance. 👉 Don’t underestimate the impact of proper servicing. #CombustionLoading #RefuseChuteCleaning #FireSafety #HydroChute #BuildingMaintenance #HygieneSafety

Q. What do you think is the greatest risk to life in a building fire? It isn’t flames or heat....... it’s smoke, which tragically claims more lives than fire itself. This risk is even more pronounced in high-rise buildings, where refuse and linen chutes are commonplace. That’s why it is critical that chute hoppers and doors are designed and tested to resist smoke in the event of a bin, bin room, or chute fire. But what standards should apply? 🎥 In this short video, Riley Smith explains the British Standards Hydro Chute use to test all our hoppers and doors, why these standards were chosen, and why they are the most relevant for our niche industry. #BuildingSafety #FireSafety #SmokeControl #HighRise #Compliance #HRBs #binchute #trashchute #wastechute #garbagechute #linenchute #laundrychute #HydroChute

🚨 Refuse Chute Fire Safety – A Common but Costly Mistake 🚨 At the 8th International Tall Building Safety Conference, Charles White highlighted a growing issue in fire compliance: ❌ Incorrect equipment is being specified for use in refuse chutes, often by well-meaning fire risk assessors, building managers, and compliance officers who are unaware of the specific requirements. For example, we’re seeing HVAC fire dampers, designed for clean air systems, mistakenly used in place of Fire Closure Plates, which are purpose-built to withstand impact from solid waste and continue functioning as designed. These dampers are not designed for the harsh conditions inside refuse chutes. Once installed, they quickly become blocked or fail entirely, leaving buildings and residents exposed to significant risk. ▶️ In the short video below, Charles breaks down exactly why this needs to change. 📌 Bottom line: If it’s not designed, tested, and certified for use in a refuse chute, it shouldn't be installed in one. #FireSafety #RefuseChutes #TallBuildings #BuildingSafetyAct #FRA #PassiveFireProtection #WasteManagement #FireEngineering #HydroChute #ComplianceMatters #ChuteSystems #Fitforpurpose #BSR
