What’s your first move, when your Head of IT calls you to tell you your organisation has been hacked? Imagine a big red digital timer starts the moment you get the call. It’s counting down from 60 minutes. The Golden Hour principle in crisis response is the idea that the first 60 minutes following an incident are disproportionally important in shaping how effectively an organisation responds and how the crisis develops. Your timer is ticking down. 10 minutes already gone once you’ve been briefed on the limited details currently available. You know the CEO and CFO are in a meeting; neither picks up their phone. Another minute gone. Takes you four minutes to reach the meeting room, seven minutes to brief them. You’ve sent a Teams to your colleague instructing them to find the crisis manual on the way. 22 minutes gone. 38 minutes left. Your phone pings. It’s the BBC. What’s your move? In a fast-moving situation, you can be on the back foot from the get-go. Your greatest advantage is the preparation you've done before the clock starts ticking. Knowing who makes the decisions, how to mobilise your team and what your immediate priorities are shouldn't be things you're working out for the first time in the middle of a crisis. That's why practising your response matters. Regularly testing plans, challenging assumptions and putting decision-makers under pressure builds the confidence, judgement and organisational resilience needed to respond effectively when it really counts. At Headland, we help organisations build and test that resilience. Because when a crisis hits, you don't want the first 60 minutes to be a rehearsal. Get in touch if you need support. Mis- and dis-information is becoming an increasingly serious reputational, commercial and legal risk for organisations and can quickly become a crisis. On Tuesday 15 September, Headland is hosting a breakfast briefing on how organisations can anticipate, prepare for, respond to and recover from these threats, as well as unveiling new research on Board readiness for the risks that mis- and dis-information pose. I’ll be joined on the panel by Tom Rudkin, Head of Reputation Management at Farrer & Co, and Ana P., Associate Director, Disputes & Investigations at S-RM, bringing legal, investigations and digital forensics perspectives to the discussion. The panel is chaired by Siobhan Shea-Simonds (nee Gilheany). We have a small number of places left for senior communication leaders. If you’d like to join us, DM me and I’ll send over the details. #misinformation #disinformation #crisis #reputation

After chairing a panel with Emma Pinchbeck, Jonathan Pershing and Emma Howard Boyd at our Future Climate Leaders Forum during London Climate Action Week, it became clear that climate is becoming inseparable from physical risks, economic strategy, industrial policy, resilience, security, finance and trade. Read here what this means for the next era of climate communications.

With London Climate Action Week now wrapped up, we're looking back on one of our highlights: the Future Climate Leaders Forum. 🌱 Last week, we brought together an inspiring group of emerging climate leaders from across business, policy and civil society for a day of big ideas, honest conversations and - despite London's best attempt at melting us all - plenty of energy. We created the Forum to make space for new connections, fresh perspectives and practical conversations about the future of climate leadership. Judging by the discussions in the room, we're excited to see where those conversations go next. Here's a quick look back at the day. 🎥 A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen - especially our partners Lloyds Banking Group and Bladonmore, our speakers and everyone who joined us across the day. We can't wait to do it again. #LCAW
