Ahead of IAA Transportation in Hanover this September, we spoke with Christoph Hengstebeck, Head of Body Lighting and Electronics Special Original Equipment at FORVIA HELLA, about how intelligent electronics and energy management are shaping the next generation of commercial vehicles. For fleet operators and commercial vehicle manufacturers, two priorities remain constant: keeping vehicles on the road and keeping costs under control. Yet as powertrains diversify and electrical architectures become more complex, meeting both demands requires smarter solutions at every level of the vehicle. In the interview, Christoph Hengstebeck discusses how intelligent energy management can support: - Prevention of vehicle downtimes through monitoring battery conditions - Reliable power supply for safety-critical functions such as braking, steering and driver assistance systems - Reduced total cost of ownership through optimized energy utilization and lower maintenance efforts - Scalable electrical architectures with reduced wiring complexity for software-defined vehicles - Battery-electric, hybrid and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles But as vehicle E/E architectures complexity increases, simply adding more functions is not the answer. Manufacturers also need to balance system reliability, functional safety, integration effort and cost. How can critical electrical systems be kept operational under all conditions, while still supporting new powertrain strategies and evolving vehicle architectures? This is where intelligent energy management becomes increasingly important. Solutions such as the Intelligent Battery Sensor, the Intelligent Power Distribution Module and the High-Voltage DC/DC Converter help monitor battery health, protect safety-critical systems and ensure stable energy conversion across modern vehicle platforms. "Intelligent energy management is no longer only about efficiency. It is becoming a prerequisite for vehicle safety, availability and long-term operational value." 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗔 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗔: 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Actuators are at the heart of modern vehicle systems, enabling precise motion control across a wide range of applications. With decades of experience in automotive actuation, FORVIA HELLA develops intelligent solutions that help make vehicles more efficient, safer, and more comfortable. Our 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 builds on the advantages of modern brushless motor technology to deliver solutions that are more efficient, compact, and robust for the vehicles of tomorrow. But technology alone is not the differentiator. What sets FORVIA HELLA apart is our 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵. We bring together mechanics, electronics, software, and drive technology into one optimized solution, helping customers reduce complexity while improving performance, efficiency, and packaging. As vehicles become increasingly electrified and software-defined, this holistic approach enables smarter actuator systems that are ready for the next generation of automotive architectures. ➡️ In our next post, we'll take a closer look at EmbeDrive and show how this integrated approach creates value for future mobility. #FORVIAHELLA #Electronics #EmbeDrive #ActuatorTechnology
