Are you discussing timely opportunities for charitable giving with your clients in light of this year’s new tax changes? Although tax-smart giving continues to be one of the most effective yet underutilized strategies at year-end, a shift in their usual approach could help your clients reduce their taxes—and possibly increase support for their favorite nonprofits. Several provisions of the legislation take effect beginning with the 2025 tax year, making it essential to evaluate how these changes may influence current charitable planning strategies. Here are considerations from Fidelity Charitable® to help facilitate these conversations with your clients and why it matters: https://lnkd.in/e5T7d8sk ➡️ Consider increasing giving this year ➡️ Determine if itemizing is possible ➡️ Donate stock or other non-cash assets ➡️ Consider a donor-advised fund ➡️ Take action before year-end As a reminder: Contributions must be completed by December 31 to be eligible for a tax deduction this year. Be sure to plan ahead and begin the process early to help your clients maximize their tax benefits and their support for the charities they care about most.

Change is on the horizon for charitable planning, and advisors who prepare now can guide clients towards meaningful tax savings. The new tax act introduces some of the most significant changes to charitable planning I’ve seen in years. Here’s some of what will be changing in the 2026 tax year: 1) Above-the-line deductions for non-itemizers 2) Limits on deductions for top earners 3) A new floor on deductions for itemizers and corporations During our recent webinar, where we discussed the new legislation, one theme came through loud and clear: With so much change, now is the time to start charitable planning conversations with your clients. In fact, charitable planning can help grow your practice—nearly half of RIAs say it strengthens client relationships, and 60% say it helps attract new clients. (Fidelity Charitable® study: Differentiating with charitable planning). As you guide clients through this shifting landscape, a few strategic considerations you might want to consider: Timing matters: Accelerating contributions in 2025 could maximize client tax savings and donor-advised funds could play a role in implementing this strategy. Think beyond cash: A mix of cash and non-cash gifts to help maximize donations this year and may lead to greater impact as the legislation introduces new complexities and considerations for itemizers. Simplify your guidance: Legislation and tax changes can be complex. Leverage some of the charitable planning strategies outlined in the article below to help clients give more effectively in 2025 and beyond: https://lnkd.in/eGZ4KP3p What are you doing to help your clients navigate the legislation change?
