Three days of convective storm development over Central Europe, compressed into one animation. ⛈️ This is the IR sandwich composite from Meteosat-12's Flexible Combined Imager (FCI), blending visible and infrared data and colourising cloud tops by temperature. The colder a cloud top, the more distinct the colour, making it easier to read the structure of a storm as it forms, intensifies and evolves, and to judge its potential impact. ☁️ The sequence spans 14 July 12:00 UTC to 17 July 06:00 UTC.

The first of our satellites to launch this year will be Meteosat Third Generation Imager-2 (MTG-I2) 🚀 MTG-I2 will complete the first full Meteosat Third Generation constellation - increasing operational resilience with two imagers in orbit. The satellite's rapid scan service will deliver high-resolution imagery of Europe and North Africa, helping forecasters track convective storms, wildfire hotspots and dust plumes in near real time. As part of a wider Earth observation system, MTG-I2 will help meteorological services act earlier. 🛰️ Our launch hub will tell you more! https://bit.ly/3SP9imF

🌫️ Image of the Week: Smoke and haze over Southeast Asia This image, captured by #Copernicus Sentinel-3 on 14 April, shows smoke and haze over Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and neighbouring countries. It is driven by a mix of agricultural burning and wildfires, exacerbated by warm, dry conditions - which have caused major air quality problems across the region.
