The ALCB Fund is proud to announce its first investment in Angola by anchoring the inaugural Sustainability Bond issuance of BANCO BAI, Angola's leading private commercial bank, investing US$10 million in local currency equivalent. As the first public issuance of sustainable bonds in #Angola, this landmark transaction demonstrates the growing role capital markets can play in financing projects aligned with the #SDGs. Proceeds will finance eligible activities across agriculture, industry, logistics, healthcare and other productive sectors of the Angolan economy, and forms part of a broader effort to strengthen the foundations for sustainable finance in Angola and connect private capital with national development priorities. To mark the occasion, BODIVA-BOLSA DE DÍVIDA E VALORES DE ANGOLA - Sociedade Aberta hosted a Ring the Bell Ceremony on 22 September 2026, where Clemens Calice, CEO of Cygnum Capital, joined BAI and ÁUREA - Sociedade Distribuidora de Valores Mobiliários, S.A. to celebrate this milestone for Angola's capital markets. The AfricaGoGreen Fund, managed by Cygnum Capital, has provided a USD 10.7 million senior debt facility to BioLite to finance the rollout of at least 163,500 improved cookstoves in #Zambia. The project's carbon credits will be sold to Switzerland's KliK Foundation under an Article 6.2 Mitigation Outcomes Purchase Agreement between BioLite and KliK, implemented under the bilateral agreement between #Zambia and #Switzerland. What is interesting about this deal is not just the cookstoves, it is the ground-breaking financing structure. Carbon projects have traditionally relied on grants, equity or upfront carbon credit purchases. This transaction is financed with debt and repaid from future carbon revenues. The structure brings together three elements: ✅ A long-term Article 6.2 offtake providing contracted demand for the project's ITMOs ✅ Commercial debt financing from AfricaGoGreen Fund ✅ Carbon insurance provided by CFC and Kita, brokered by The Texel Group Put together, this creates a genuinely bankable financing model for high-integrity carbon projects. If carbon markets are to mobilise capital at scale, project developers need access to debt, not just grants and equity. Transactions like this help move the market from bespoke funding solutions towards repeatable investment structures capable of attracting institutional capital. This is one of the first examples of Article 6.2 contracted revenues, debt capital and carbon insurance being combined in this way, and exactly the sort of financial innovation the market needs if it is going to fulfil its potential. Together, these elements form a template that other developers and financiers can follow. As we gather in #CapeTown this week for #AEF2026 we are pleased to announce that Cygnum Capital’s Facility for Energy Inclusion (FEI), alongside Norfund, has closed a USD 90 million long-term debt facility for Communication and Renewable Energy Infrastructure (CREI) — a leading telecom energy service company (TESCO) and asset manager. The financing partially refinances bridge facilities previously arranged by FEI and supports CREI’s continued rollout of renewable energy solutions across #Mali, #SouthSudan, the #CentralAfricanRepublic, and beyond. Working closely with two33’s ieng Group, this investment will help modernise telecom energy infrastructure, delivering more reliable and sustainable power to mobile network operators in some of Africa’s most underserved markets. This is a strong example of the kind of long-term, scalable capital solutions being discussed at #AEF2026. Many thanks to our advisors — Ashurst LLP (legal), SLR Consulting (E&S), Control Risks (contextual risk) and 3E (technical) — for their support on this transaction. Congratulations to the Republic of Angola on its landmark Eurobond issuance, marking a decisive reopening of the CEEMEA primary market since the onset of the Iran crisis. #Angola is the first African sovereign to return to the market amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty, successfully executing a sizeable transaction despite the challenging backdrop. Capitalising on strong investor demand, Angola priced USD 2.5 billion across 7‑year and 11‑year maturities, yielding 9.375% and 9.875% respectively. The issuance was complemented by a proactive liability management exercise on its 2028 notes, supporting a more efficient and sustainable repayment profile. The transaction attracted a high‑quality orderbook approximately 2x oversubscribed, underscoring Angola’s resilient credit fundamentals and continued investor confidence in the Republic’s macroeconomic trajectory and reform momentum. Cygnum Capital is proud to have supported the Ministry of Finance of Angola on this transaction. Follow and read more here: https://lnkd.in/eGeFyAmP
