Grids are quickly becoming one of the defining challenges of Europe’s energy transition. Our Charging Ahead report, developed with Ea Energianalyse A/S, reveals that Europe needs to invest around EUR 2.9 trillion in power infrastructure by 2050. Yet, the cost of underinvestment in Europe’s ageing power grids far outweighs the investment required. Grid investment is essential to developing a more affordable, resilient, and competitive European energy system. Martin Neubert explains why grids are a core enabler of the energy transition. Could Europe still reach Net Zero if it waited until 2040 to accelerate the energy transition? Our recent Charging Ahead report, developed with Ea Energianalyse A/S, explores this question. While it is possible, this approach would place unprecedented demands on supply chains, permitting, grids, and capital mobilisation. Watch Philip Christiani explain how early and consistent action gives Europe the strongest chance of delivering an energy system that is affordable, resilient, and clean at scale. As Europe seeks to strengthen energy security, reduce exposure to volatile fossil fuel markets, and improve industrial competitiveness, accelerated investment in renewable generation, grids, and flexibility infrastructure will be essential. In a new World Economic Forum article, CIP Partner Philip Christiani explores why electrification is one of Europe's most strategic investments and what it will take to deliver a more resilient and affordable energy system. What is carbon capture and storage (CCS)? CCS is a key solution for reducing emissions that cannot easily be eliminated through electrification. Through our US‑based CCS projects developed with BKV Corporation, we are building infrastructure to capture CO₂ at source and store it permanently underground. These projects include: ♦ Barnett Zero which captured ~140kt CO₂ in 2025 alone ♦ Eagle Ford which will sequester ~90kt of CO₂ annually once operational These projects demonstrate how CCS can be deployed to deliver permanent emissions reductions.

What role does onshore wind play in the energy transition? Projects like Panther Grove I & II in Illinois help us to answer that question. With a combined capacity of ~873 MW, Panther Grove I & II is among our largest onshore wind projects in the US. Acquired through our fifth flagship fund, the project supports US energy security while also diversifying the nation’s energy mix. With competitive development timelines and US state-level permitting frameworks, onshore wind is well positioned to meet the nations increasing power demand.

How do batteries strengthen energy systems? Battery storage enables: • Renewable energy when it’s needed most • Fast, scalable grid flexibility • Lower costs and reduced fossil reliance Projects like Arena BESS in Northern Chile bring this to life. At 220 MW / 1,100 MWh, the project is one of Chile’s largest standalone battery systems, shifting excess solar into evening hours and reducing reliance on carbon‑intensive generation at peak demand.
