CIMMYT and the World Food Programme have established a landmark global partnership to strengthen food security and build more resilient agrifood systems worldwide. By connecting #WFP’s experience delivering food assistance in crisis settings with #CIMMYT’s global research networks, crop innovation, and eight decades of work alongside farmers, this collaboration will create a pathway from immediate crisis support to longer term agricultural recovery. The agreement will help farming households restore production, rebuild livelihoods, strengthen farming systems, and become more resilient to future shocks. The work has already begun in Sudan through the four year BOOST Project, which will support more than 230,000 farming households and enable the production of nearly one million metric tons of cereals and pulses. Every morning, more than 90 million people in India eat wheat that's quietly improving their health, without knowing it.🍛 🫀 💊 That's the result of a decade of work by CIMMYT scientists and Indian research partners tackling a problem most people can't see: zinc deficiency. The answer wasn't a supplement. It was wheat itself. By breeding higher zinc levels into varieties farmers already wanted, high-yielding, heat-tolerant, disease-resistant, biofortified wheat spread on its own merits. Today, varieties from the Ninga family cover 7–8 million hectares across Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh. The zinc is invisible in the flour. The chapatis taste the same. The cost to consumers? Zero extra. Millions of families eating better, every single day. 🔗 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/euHHRqEG
