Special needs trusts aren't reserved for families with enormous fortunes. That assumption can cause families to dismiss a planning option before they understand what it does. Sheila Gibson explains why families shouldn’t assume a special needs trust is only worth exploring if they consider themselves wealthy. The discussion starts with the beneficiary’s needs, available resources, government benefits, and how future assets may be received and managed. The word “trust” can sound formal or financially out of reach. Kate Duffy and Sheila make the subject much more practical by focusing on the family decisions underneath the legal terminology. For a parent or grandparent wondering how future assets could support a loved one with special needs, exploring the available structures can be a useful starting point. Get the fuller explanation of where special needs trusts can fit into family planning. https://bit.ly/4s8TDMw

A financially expensive decision isn't automatically a bad decision. Jamie Hopkins Esq., LLM, CFP®, ChFC®, CLU®, RICP® uses vacations as a simple example. Someone may look at the cost and think they shouldn't spend that much, then choose to take the trip anyway. Was that necessarily wrong? The expense is only one part of the decision. Enjoyment, memories, relationships, and emotional value may also be part of what the money is supporting. Kate Duffy connects that idea to another common pattern: people can receive thoughtful recommendations and leave with a financial plan, yet still struggle to implement it. That gap deserves attention. Before judging a money decision only by its price, consider what else the decision represents. Hear Jamie and Kate examine why financial plans and human behavior have to work together. https://bit.ly/4xmx5Zz

How do you create support systems that help young people develop for the long term? Kenny Holdsman believes opportunity is shaped by more than academics or athletics alone. Through the Philadelphia Youth Basketball’s Kinder to Career framework, the organization focuses on the many areas that influence a young person’s development, including education, emotional growth, civic involvement, and career preparation. The framework was created around the idea of expanding access to the types of support systems that help young people develop academically, socially, emotionally, civically, and vocationally. Building wealth and using wealth require two very different mindsets. Jamie Hopkins Esq., LLM, CFP®, ChFC®, CLU®, RICP® and Kate Duffy explain that while saving becomes second nature over time, spending confidently in retirement often feels unfamiliar. That's why a retirement plan should begin with the life you want to build, then connect the numbers to that vision. Retirement isn't simply about reaching a financial milestone. It's about creating a plan that supports the experiences you want throughout the years ahead. Hear more: https://lnkd.in/gwFCs_T6
